Hours After Discharge, Junaid’s Elder Brother Readmitted to AIIMS

Shaqir had been discharged and taken home early on Friday morning.

On Saturday morning, Shaqir, older brother to 16-year-old Junaid Khan who was lynched to death on a Mathura-bound train last week, was readmitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre in the capital after having been admitted the first time in the lynching.

Shaqir had reportedly complained of severe pain in the lungs. After being readmitted, was discharged and taken home early on Friday morning. According to The Indian Express, the doctors had prescribed him a range of medicines – “an antibiotic, a painkiller, a wound cleansing pill, a strong antacid, and a Vitamin D pill” – to be taken over a course of 10 days.

While a large crowd gathered outside their home in Ballabhgarh, praying and thanking god that he had survived, Shaqir himself remained quiet, reported The Indian Express.

On 22 June, Shaqir’s younger brother Junaid was killed by an angry mob, allegedly after a fight over seats. The attackers allegedly used racial and religious slurs. According to Hashib, one of the victims, the three of them were called “Pakistanis”, “anti-nationals” and “beef-eaters”. While Junaid died in the tussle, Shaqir and Hashib were grievously injured.
