Judicial Appointments: Govt Says Names Rejected Due to Complaints

• The government defended its move to return the names of 43 candidates recommended by the Supreme Court collegium for appointment as judges in high courts, saying the decision was based on adverse intelligence reports and a serious nature of complaints against them.
• On 18 November, the apex court had refused to accept the Centre's rejection of the names; these were sent back for reconsideration.
• The Centre had, on 15 November, told the court that it had cleared 34 names out of the 77 recommended by the collegium for appointment as judges in various high courts in the country.
