The Mumbai Police has said that the body of journalist Raghavendra Dube, was found some distance away from a Thane bar where he and his colleagues were attacked by the bar’s staffers after they had gone to cover a raid there, reported The Hindu.
A police raid was on at the White House Bar in Naya Nagar, Thane district. Hearing the news, Santosh Mishra and Shashi Sharma, journalists at a local magazine arrived at the scene to cover the raid. The two were allegedly attacked by the bar’s staffers while they were clicking photographs of the raid.
Dube reached the spot for coverage after the assault on Sharma and Mishra and then went to the Mira Road police station. He left the police station early Friday morning. Soon after, the police received information about a body lying on the Mira-Bhayander road, near SK Stone. The body turned out to be Dube’s.
Strict action has been demanded against the culprits by journalists across Mumbai.
The demand for stringent laws to protect journalists have been demanded by the Opposition parties and the attack will put more pressure on the BJP government in Maharashtra led by Devendra Fadnavis.
