A 21-year-old student from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was drugged and raped by a cab driver on the night of Friday, 2 August.
The woman was returning from a friend’s party when the incident took place, reported Mirror Now.
After attending a party at her friend’s house, the victim booked a cab to her hostel, and boarded it from Mandir Marg area, according to The Times of India.
In the statement she gave to the police, she alleged that the driver offered her something which left her unconscious, following which she was raped in the cab. After he had raped her, the driver drove her around for three hours.
She was found in a semi-conscious state near a park in South Delhi, and local residents took her to a nearby hospital.
Once she was admitted, doctors confirmed it to be a case of sexual assault. After she was discharged, she went to the hostel and narrated the entire incident, according to The Times of India.
She was then taken to a police station for her statement to be recorded and a complaint to be filed
The police has registered a complaint on her case but they haven’t revealed whether the victim booked an app-based cab or another taxi service, reported Mirror Now.
As of now, the driver of the cab is absconding and search operations to find him are underway.
