Two of the students charged with sedition, Umar Khaled and ANirban Bhattacharya, surrender to the Delhi police.
Students chanted “Azadi, Azadi” and “Halla Bol” while the two were taken away by the police. The two have been taken to the South Campus police station.
The students formed a human chain around the two while the police took them away.

The two will be produced in front of the district magistrate tomorrow at the PAtiala House Court. Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea will also come up for hearing tomorrow.
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, who had earlier agreed to not oppose Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail, has said that the Delhi Police will now oppose his bail in the court tomorrow.

During the 20-minute meeting, Singh apprised Modi on the situation in JNU which arose due to resurfacing of five students, who were absconding after the arrest of JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges.

Umar Khaled’s father told the media that Umar should surrender before the court. He believes that the charges against him are more heinous than those against Kanhaiya.
Wading into the JNU row, a group of IIT-Madras faculty members has expressed concern about institutions of higher learning being converted into “war zones”, saying that calling for the country’s “dismemberment and ruin” in the name of dissent is not acceptable.
In a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, the 56 faculty members said there is a need to save educational institutions from the scholarship of abuse and hate and sought his intervention.
Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association has also written to Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, asking him to take strict action against anti-national activists.
Delhi High Court has made it clear that Umar Khaled and Anirban Bhattacharya have to surrender and follow the due process of law. Also the court refrained from giving any specific direction on granting any interim protection from arrest until the next hearing.
During the hearing, Umar Khaled’s lawyer told the High Court that his client was willing to surrender at a time and location of his choice. The Delhi police has made a strong objection against surrendering at undisclosed location. The hearing will continue tomorrow.
The Court has also dismissed the plea filed by a lawyer seeking to allow Delhi Police to enter JNU campus and arrest the accused students.
Delhi CP BS Bassi has said that the Delhi police has decided to oppose Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea citing that he can influence witnesses and thus impact the police investigation.

Rama Naga and Anant Prakash Narayan, two of the six students charged with sedition, have filed for anticipatory bail plea in the Delhi High Court. The court is set to hear the matter at 4 pm.
The Delhi High Court will also hear the plea of Umar Khaled and Anirban Bhattacharya, who are seeking security to surrender. This plea too, will be heard at 4 pm today.

The Delhi High Court also agrees to hear another plea seeking directions for the Delhi police to arrest the five accused JNU students. The five students are Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rama Naga, Ashutosh Kumar and Anant Prakash.
The apex court will consider a plea filed by Prashant Bushan, for contempt action against the three lawyers who were allegedly caught on camera beating up Kanhaiya Kumar at the Patiala House Court.
The Supreme Court directed Prashant Bhushan to file an application seeking contempt proceedings against the lawyers.
Umar Khaled, along with another JNU student accused of raising ‘anti-national’ slogans, approached the Delhi High Court, seeking security to surrender. The court has now agreed to hear their petition.
The petition also seeks to further initiate action against the Vice Chancellor and faculty members of JNU responsible for obstructing the administration of justice.
Delhi Police has opposed Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea in the sedition case. The Delhi High Court seeks a status report on Kanhaiya’s bail plea. The hearing has been postponed till tomorrow.
BS Bassi responded saying the Delhi Police will not oppose Kanhaiya’s bail plea, what SPP Babbar said was his personal opinion.
An interim investigation report has been submitted to Delhi Commissioner BS Bassi. The report mentions eyewitness’ statements, Kanhaiya’s presence and video footage as evidence against Kanhaiya.
The Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has appointed four lawyers to appear for the state in Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea. The plea will come up for hearing today in the Delhi High Court. The LG has asked Delhi government’s standing counsel Rahul Mehra not to appear.
Rahul Mehra, a known supporter and appointee of AAP, said he will be present in the the high court despite the LG’s orders.
Delhi Police however, has written to the LG stating they have no confidence in the four lawyers appointed by the Delhi government and suggested four new names including Additional Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta.
Security has been tightened ahead of Kanhaiya’s bail plea hearing today.
Umar Khaled and the other students who were on the run after being charged with sedition will move the Delhi High Court, and are seeking security to surrender.

Lawyers who allegedly assaulted JNU students including Kanhaiya Kumar and journalists outside the Patiala House Court, were planning to thrash Kumar in prison too. This has been revealed by a sting operation conducted by a news channel on two of the three lawyers involved in the attack.
In the video broadcast by the English news channel on Monday evening, the lawyers could be seen claiming that they also thrashed Kanhaiya for around three hours while he was in police custody. They claimed he wet his pants during the beating.
They also claimed to have spared Kanhaiya only after they made him raise a slogan praising India. One of them can be seen saying that he would not sign a bail bond only to land in jail, so that he could beat up Kanhaiya again inside the jail premises.
He goes on to say that they had the full support of police during the scuffle at the court premises. Senior police officials have so far refused to comment on the video without verification.
Police had issued notices to lawyers Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma to join investigation, following which Sharma presented himself before police and was arrested. The two others are yet to appear.
Delhi High Court will hear Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea today. On Friday, the Supreme Court refused to hear his plea, and instead directed him to approach a lower court first.
Kanhaiya was assaulted by lawyers when he was produced in Patiala House Court at the end of his police custody, despite explicit Supreme Court orders for police protection. His legal counsel approached the Supreme Court because the atmosphere at Patiala House Court was far from conducive.
The JNU Students’ Union Presiden was arrested for sedition, two days after JNU witnessed clashes between two student groups over Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged on 9 February 2013 in Tihar Jail. A group of students in the University had organised an event on the second anniversary of his hanging.
