After Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Professor Atul Johri was accused of sexual misconduct, another case of a JNU Professor harassing female students has come to light.

A student of JNU’s Centre for South Asian Studies has filed a complaint with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) against a professor of the same faculty in the University’s International School.

The complaint, dated 8 January 2018, accused the professor of harassing female students mentally as well as physically. The student said that the said professor has been harassing her since he became the girl’s supervisor.

He initially harassed me mentally, then passed sexual remarks, after which I maintained distance. When I started maintaining distance, he started damaging my academics, he blocked my progress and after that he put me in such vulnerable position that one goes into phase where anyone can exploit you as he/she wishes.

Calling the professor from the Centre for South Asian Studies a ‘serial offender’, the girl said that he has always had this method of putting the girls in a vulnerable position by deliberately sabotaging their academics and blocking their progress.

The girl further narrated an instance of the same happening with her Chinese friend.

He did the same with my friend from China, he spoilt her academics, blocked her progress and even force her to deregister, just like he did with me.

The girl even tried to change her supervisor after the incident, but no solid action was taken due to the faulty administration.

The complainant said that she was not the only one to have witnessed such harassment.

She further said that although it has been months since she registered her complaint, there has not been any solid action against the professor.

Although I had informed three professors, I have not witnessed any action against the said professor as he is regularly coming to college, his participation in academic activities in campus is still the same.
