In Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, a first-year engineering student killed himself earlier this week, leaving behing a purported six-page letter that claimed he was sexually abused and extorted by senior students, the police said on Friday, 9 August.
The body of the student went missing on Wednesday evening from the college hostel and was recovered by the police from Mahulsai lake in Chaibasa on Thursday.
Indrajit Mahatha, West Singhbhum superintendent of police (SP) said that the three have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of forced unnatural sex and extortion on the basis of the letter and a complaint filed by his family.
"We have seized five mobile phones, three note books and a CD," Mahatha told the reporters, according to Hindustan Times.
A top college official denied any mistake on the part of the college management, but said that the boy had attempted to kill himself in May this year as well. He said that the hostel-in-charge had been suspended for dereliction of duty pending completion of college's internal inquiry.
