Man Beaten For ‘Kidnapping’ Own Kid Amid Child-Lifting Hysteria

Incidents of people being beaten over child-lifting suspicions have been on the rise, and another instance of it has come to light, wherein a man was thrashed in Jharkhand for allegedly attempting to kidnap his own child.

The incident took place in Jamtara district of Jharkhand, on Thursday, 5 September, when Pintulal Barman of Gedia village was waiting for a bus in Jamtara town with his two sons, Hindustan Times reported.

Barman’s son began to wail after being refused snacks, and Barman slapped him. Subsequently, people gathered in the area, accusing him of being a child lifter. Barman was saved when someone in the crowd reportedly informed the police.

Barman told the police, “My wife is unwell for last few days and that is why I was taking my two children to my elder bother’s house in Dhanbad,” the HT report said.

Jamtara police station Incharge Manoj Kumar told the publication that the man (Barman) had been rescued in time. “When we reached the spot, he was in the middle of a crowd,” Kumar reportedly said. The police later confirmed that Barman was the father of the two kids.

In another instance of violence in Jharkhand, a 50-year-old man was killed in Dhanbad district on Friday, by a mob accusing him of child lifting, IANS reported, quoting the police.

Pratham Kumar was roaming around in Kati Pahari village when a mob caught him and brutally beat him. The villagers alleged that Kumar had admitted to being a child lifter.

The victim was admitted to a hospital where he died while being administered treatment.

In yet another incident on Friday, a youth was thrashed by villagers in Bhuli locality of Dhanbad district on charges of child lifting.

Earlier, a middle-aged person was beaten to death on Wednesday in Ramgarh district on suspicions of child lifting. Three people were detained.

On Tuesday, six people were mercilessly thrashed in Koderma district on suspicions of child lifting.
