Air India, on Sunday 4 August, announced a cap on the air fares of its flights to and from Srinagar till 15 August, as scores of people including pilgrims on the Amarnath Yatra, are leaving the Valley due to the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"In view of the prevailing circumstances, Air India has decided to cap the fare at Rs 9500 for all the flights to and from Srinagar till 15 August," the airlines tweeted.

Later, the airline further reduced the fare for its flights on the same route. "Air India further reduces fare at Rs 6715 Srinagar to Delhi and at Rs 6899 from Delhi to Srinagar till 15 August," another tweet said.

This announcement from Air India came after the fares from Srinagar spiked post the weekend as the Jammu and Kashmir administration issued an advisory asking tourists to leave "immediately" amid intelligence and security threats.

For a one-way flight from Srinagar to Delhi, the charges surged above Rs 10,000 per person, even for the cheapest carriers.

The rumours went out of hand after former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted a screenshot for fares of two adults, one child and an infant as going above Rs 40,000 one way.
