A day after Prime Minister Modi’s announcement of a new Rs 2,000 currency note, the Reserve Bank of India has already dismissed as “figments of imagination” social media’s favourite rumour about it.

Earlier on Wednesday, reports had emerged claiming that the soon to be launched Rs 2,000 note will come equipped with a nano GPS tracker that will help the notes to be tracked from anywhere.

However, speaking to CNNNews18 RBI spokesperson Aplana Killawala rubbished any such news.

Such a technology does not exist at the moment in the world, then how can we introduce such a feature?

Late on Wednesday, WhatsApp forwards and tweets started making rounds claiming the notes to be equipped with sophisticated technology which will help the RBI curb the flow of black money in the country.

Such rumours gained traction even though the RBI on Wednesday did not mention the presence of any such GPS chip in its official statement.

Here’s the complete list of features of the new currency note.
