A group of farmers performed 'shavasana' or the corpse pose on a national highway to symbolically protest killing of farmers in Mandsaur and "anti-farm" policies of the Modi government.
As the Prime Minister performed yoga in Lucknow along with the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the farmers under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) performed 'shavasana' on the Lucknow-Barabanki Highway.
Shavasana or corpse pose gets its name from the posture of a dead body.
BKU spokesman Alok Verma told PTI, "Hundreds of farmers performed 'shavasana' on Lucknow-Barabaki Highway near Safedabad between 9 am to 11 am as part of our protest today".
As Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan led yoga enthusiasts in performing 'asanas' on the International Yoga Day, the Congress leaders carried out the 'Shavasan,' the corpse pose, to highlight farmers' plight in the state.
Chouhan, while addressing a gathering of yoga enthusiasts at the Lal Parade ground here, underlined the importance of the traditional practice in promoting wellness.
Meanwhile, some Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders performed 'Shavasan' at the party's state headquarters here.
State Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said the programme was organised to highlight the farmers' plight in MP.
He said their event was also to protest the killing of five cultivators in police firing in Mandsaur recently and the increasing incidents of farmers' suicides.
He said Congress leaders across the state organised such programmes.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said yoga has the power to transmit the nature's energies to human beings and that the traditional practice helps people in handling their problems.
Fadnavis celebrated International Yoga Day here with 600 children from farmers' families in tribal districts of the state.
"Yoga is not only a form of exercise but a way of living life. Yoga has the power to transmit the nature's energies to humans," the chief minister said after performing various asanas.
Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff and social activist Shantilal Mutha also attended the hour-long yoga session organised in Worli.
The Delhi Police had received intelligence inputs about some terror outfits planning a "London-style attack" during the International Yoga Day celebrations at Connaught Place here.
In view of the alert warning of the attack similar to the one in London recently in which a man had ploughed a van into people, the police had barricaded with buses the entry points of roads leading to Connaught Place, sources said.
The police had only left some space for pedestrians to pass through, the sources said.
This had been done to ensure that even if a vehicle tried to enter the area, it would end up ramming into these empty buses, they added.
A three-tier security layer was thrown around the area to enhance the vigil, a senior police officer said, adding, that snipers were also stationed on certain buildings to keep a hawk eye vigil.
ABP News reported that around 22 children who performed yoga aling with PM Modi in Lucknow fell sick after being drenched in rain. They were later taken to LoK Bandhu Hospital for treatment, the report added.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who also performed a few asanas at CP on International Yoga Day encouraged everybody to do Yoga.

Mats were rolled out on the streets of Connaught Place's Inner Circle for people to perform various asanas.
Though rains in the early hours had turned the mats soggy, the number of people joining the celebrations continued to build up.
Mats were also rolled out at the six radial roads of the famed market place, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden and Children's Park at India Gate, under the aegis of the New Delhi Municipal Council.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also seen doing yoga along with other yoga enthusiasts in CP.
As the day progresses, the number of people participating in the celebrations, which also includes mega yoga sessions at DDA parks, is expected to reach 10,000 across the city.
The day, which was adopted by the United Nations in 2014, was also celebrated at the Red Fort lawns by a huge gathering.
Brimming with excitement and energy, Delhiites gathered in large numbers at various parks and public squares across the city on Wednesday to mark the third International Day of Yoga, even as pre-dawn showers played a bit of a spoilsport.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the countrywide celebrations in Lucknow, where an estimated 55,000 enthusiasts, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stretched an extra muscle in various yogic postures.
In Delhi, the third edition of the celebrations played out at several venues – from open plazas in central Delhi to old municipal parks and sprawling gardens in other parts of the city.
Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Vijay Goel, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also took part in the celebrations. NDA presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind and senior BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi also joined in.
