Indian-American Economist Abhijit Banerjee received the Nobel Prize in Economics in Sweden for his ‘experimental approach to alleviating global poverty’ on Tuesday, 10 December. Dressed in a bandhgala jacket and dhoti, Banerjee received the award along with colleagues Esther Duflo (his wife) and Michael Kremer.
While receiving the prize, Duflo was seen in a blue saree while Kremer wore a suit. The trio also received a cash reward of 9 million Swedish krona (about Rs 6.5 crore), that will be shared among them.
Soon after the ceremony, many users took to twitter admiring their attire.
Here's how netizens reacted to the economists get-up for the event.
After Amartya Sen, Banerjee is the second Indian Economist to win a Nobel Prize in the field. He, along with wife Esther, teaches economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US. While Kremer is an economics professor at Harvard University.
The trio’s research, for the past two decades, revolved around finding reliable answers to alleviate global poverty.
