The Indian Army reportedly carried out an anti-terror operation against insurgents along the Indo-Myanmar border early on 27 September.

Media reports identified the insurgents as the Naga rebel group, the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Khaplang), or the NSCN (K).

Army’s Eastern Command confirmed that a firefight occurred at 4:45 am. Heavy casualties were reportedly inflicted on insurgents. However, no casualties were suffered by the Indian Security Forces, it tweeted.

Senior officials told ANI that the episode was "not a surgical strike”, effectively dismissing media reports that hailed the incident a ‘second surgical strike’.

Reports quote Home Minister Rajnath Singh called Myanmar a friendly country and that he would share the details later.

The NSCN (K) was designated a terrorist organisation in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
