Bandipora: Army Recovers New Rs 2,000 Notes From Slain Terrorists

Two terrorists were gunned down by the Indian Army in Kashmir’s Bandipora on Tuesday morning. Later, the Army recovered two new Rs 2,000 notes, along with arms and ammunition.

The new Indian notes of Rs 2,000 value were introduced merely two weeks ago following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Following specific information about militant presence in Bonikhan village, troops of the 13 Rashtriya Rifles and the special operations group (SOG) of the state police had launched the operation, a police official said.

2 Militants Killed in Gunfight in Bandipora

Earlier on Tuesday, two foreign militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora.

As the surrounding troops closed in on the hiding militants, they opened fire triggering the encounter.

"The militants were engaged in a sustained gunfight till two of them were killed," said a senior police officer.

"Both the slain militants were believed to be of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit. However, their exact identities are being established," he said.
