Kashmiris and Pakistanis Are Inseparable: PM Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that the Kashmiri freedom movement would not be suppressed by Indian "brutalities" anymore, even as the political leadership of the country put forward a united front on the issue.

Sharif said "their (Kashmir) struggle for self-determination was legitimate and in accordance with UN resolutions".

"Kashmiris and Pakistanis are inseparable. We will leave no stone unturned to highlight Kashmiris' plight across all international forums," Sharif said, adding that "we stand united on matters of national importance, particularly Kashmir," he told a high-level meeting of parliamentary leaders here.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sharif to discuss the security situation with a special focus on the Kashmir situation and Indian troops' "unprovoked" firing at the Line of Control (LoC).

Kejriwal Salutes PM Modi

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that his differences with the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi aside, he is totally in support of the decision to take firm action against Pakistan. He said:

We may disagree with the Prime Minister on certain Issues, but I salute him for the will power he showed by giving the nod for the surgical strikes against Pakistan.

In the wake of Pakistan casting doubts on last week's surgical strikes across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Kejriwal also urged the Prime Minister to "expose the false propaganda" being spread by Islamabad on the issue.

Political Parties Need to Unite to Counter Terrorism, Says Nitish Kumar

Speaking to the media on Monday, Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar said that to counter terrorism, the political class needs to come together and speak in one voice. He further added that his party, and state government are in support of the Centre’s efforts against terrorism and assured neccecary steps are being taken to fight the threat of terror.

In matters related to terrorism, contradictory political views won’t help. We’re with the Centre and necessary steps are being taken to curb terrorism. 

GPS Trackers Recovered From Baramulla Attack Site

A GPS tracker, a compass, food packets and a wire cutter were recovered from the site of attack near the BSF camp in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, Vikas Chandra, Inspector General, BSF told CNN News18.

These items were found outside the Army camp, along river Jhelum, near the bunker which first noticed movement.

NSA Doval Meets PM Modi

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, on Monday. He briefed PM Modi about the attempted attack on the Army camps in Baramulla.

Alert Around Border Regions in Punjab

In the light of the suspected infiltration attempt from across the border in Gurdaspur, Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) has sounded an alert in the region.

Will Retaliate With Changed Tactics if Necessary: Top Security Official

While Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held an all party meeting to discuss the response to surgical strikes conducted by India, a top security official told The Indian Express that India will be prepared with changed tactics in response to any further provocation.

The surprise element in such an operation is key to its success and there will be no predictable repetition. If provoked yet again, we will amend our operational tactics. And for the time being, the continuing denial of Pakistan that there were no surgical strikes is a stance that suits us.

Rajnath Singh in Ladakh

Home Minister Rajnath Singh reached Ladakh for his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the Uri attack which has claimed lives of 20 soldiers so far.

DGMO Calls Pakistani Counterpart

Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Ranbir Singh called his Pakistani counterpart to discuss the issue of Indian soldier captured by Pakistan, Rifleman Chandu Chavan.

While India maintains that Chavan crossed the Line of Control (LoC) inadvertently, Pakistan claims that he was caught during the surgical strike, which Pakistan has denied, calling it cross border firing.

Nawaz Sharif Holds All Party Meet

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday chaired a meeting of the heads of parliamentary parties in the National Assembly to discuss the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Kashmir issue.

The meeting was convened with the one-point agenda to send a "clear message to the outside world" regarding situation along the LoC as well as "Indian atrocities" in Kashmir, Dawn online reported.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry briefed the leaders about the latest situation in Kashmir and the LoC.

According to Radio Pakistan, Chaudhry said that Islamabad "continues to adopt policy of non-interference" in Kashmir.

Pakistan People's Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said: "Despite our differences with the government on multiple issues, we are with you, Prime Minister."

The PPP supports Sharif and the party has taken "a clear stance on these issues". Zardari told the leaders that current tension between the two countries "is a turning point in Pak-India relations".

"There is no military solution to Kashmir."

India-Pakistan NSAs Talk

The National Security Advisors (NSA) of India and Pakistan made contact on Monday to discuss the escalating tension along the Line of Control (LoC) between the two nations.

Sartaj Aziz, Advisor to the Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, was reported by The News International as saying:

Both officials stressed on the need to establish contact to reduce tensions along the Line of Control. The Prime Minister had indicated quite clearly that till the issue of Kashmir was not resolved, tensions across the border would remain.

Firing on BSF Camp in Gurdaspur

Firing was heard at a Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Gurdaspur, Punjab, in the early hours of Monday. The BSF said that the firing was provoked by a suspected infiltration.

BSF opened fire after a suspected infiltration at the Chakri post in Gurdaspur sector, Punjab. There was no retaliation to the firing; it was not at all trans-International Border.

Search operations are being conducted at Dorangla village in Gurdaspur by police after suspicious people were seen in the region.

The firing occurred hours after an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla town was attacked by terrorists.

Baramulla Attack

Gunshots were heard by locals in Baramulla around 10pm, followed by blasts and intermittent cross-firing.

Terrorists attempted to breach the 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camp located inside a stadium in the Stadium Colony area of Baramulla town.
