A 16-year-old girl was burnt alive by a man, a day after she was allegedly raped by the him, in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Friday, 4 May. The accused was upset after he was fined by a village panchayat for allegedly raping the girl, the police said.
Dhanu Bhuiyan, a resident of a village under Itkhori police station, had allegedly abducted and raped the girl when she had gone to attend a wedding Thursday night, they said.
When the matter was brought before the village panchayat, it convened a meeting on Friday and found Bhuiyan guilty.
The panchayat allegedly imposed a fine of a few thousand rupees on Bhuiyan and also asked him to do some push-ups before the villagers as a punishment for the rape.

A gang of four unidentified persons attacked and robbed Rs 25.61 lakh from a cash van in broad daylight, near the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) office in Yamuna Nagar area of Nigdi in Pune on the afternoon of Thursday, 3 May.
The robbers also attacked the custodian of the van, identified as Mahesh Ramchandra Patne (54), who was injured in the incident and had to undergo a surgery.
The incident took place at around 1 pm, after Patne and van driver Bhausaheb Takle (38) had collected the cash from the LIC building and were on their way back to the cash van, said police.
One of the four robbers attacked Patne with a knife and snatched the cash bag from him, while his three accomplices arrived at the site on a motorcycle and a scooter. Patne tried to chase the robbers, but they pushed him away and fled from the spot on their two-wheelers.

Three days after a Muslim youth was found dead in Bikaner, allegedly killed by the kin of a young Hindu woman with whom he had an affair, the victim’s father on Friday, 4 May claimed that he had advised him against furthering the relationship and had even informed the woman’s family. The woman’s family, meanwhile, claimed the youth used to harass her and the family.
Bikaner’s Superintendent of Police Sawai Singh Godara and Circle Officer of Sadar Rajendra Singh Rathore, investigating officer of the case, said that the woman’s family has alleged that the victim, Saif Ali, 21, had threatened her father on multiple occasions. Saif was found unconscious on the night of 1 May and died in a hospital soon after.

The Tirupur rural police have booked a rape case against an unidentified person for impregnating a 31-year-old woman with learning difficulties near Madathukulam on Thursday, 3 May. This is despite the victim’s mother naming their 45-year-old neighbour as an accused in the complaint.
The police said there were two suspects in the case and that they may seek the judiciary’s intervention to conduct a DNA test to find out the culprit.
The victim’s father had died a few years ago. “The victim used to take goats they rear for grazing after her mother, who is an agricultural labour, leaves for work. Three months ago, the victim fell ill and she was taken to a private hospital, where doctors found she was four months pregnant,” the officer said.

The Bhandup police arrested a man in Mumbai, hours after his wife was found dead at their residence on Friday, 4 May morning. According to the police, the accused tried to pass of the murder as an incident of a robbery gone awry, but the circumstantial evidence gave him away.
The police received a call about the murder of one Neha Gupta, 27, a resident of Shivneri Sadan chawl in Bhandup (West).
She was found in a pool of blood, with a slashed neck and a few injuries on her arms. Her husband, Birbal, said that a robber wearing black and white clothes entered their room and fled after attacking her.
The inspection of the crime scene revealed that it would have been difficult for an outsider to have committed the crime. During the interrogation, Birbal confessed to the crime and narrated the sequence of events that led to the murder.

An FIR has been lodged against 15-year-old boy for raping a four-year-old girl in Sainik Colony under Izzatnagar police station in Bareiley. The incident took place on 2 May but an FIR was lodged on the night of Thursday, 3 May.
Izzatnagar station house officer Sanjay Kumar Singh said, “The accused is a neighbour of the girl. On Wednesday, the girl’s father was working in the field while her mother was working in the kitchen. The girl was playing in her courtyard alone when the teenager lured and raped her.’’
“Later, the girl told her mother about the incident but her mother was scared and she did not tell about the incident to anybody. Afterwards, when the girl told her father, he submitted a police complaint late on Thursday night,” the SHO said.
The accused is on the run.

An audio recording of a call from an unknown person threatening to kill a dentist at Kanathur has gone viral on social media.
Harish, the dentist, is running a clinic in Kanathur. He complained to the police that he received a call from a person demanding Rs 1 lakh immediately.
In the audio, the caller is heard saying, “We have collected all details about you and have decided to finish you off. If you don’t want to be killed, you must pay Rs 1 lakh to us.”
“If you want to be happy, give money... once you pay us, we will not disturb you at all. You may think that we will harass you repeatedly. We will not do so. I follow certain ethics and will not harass you later,” the caller said.
When the dentist negotiated with the caller and sought time saying he had only ₹10,000 with him, the caller continued to threaten him, the police said.

A 65-year old woman was allegedly raped by a criminal after she resisted robbery bid in her house in Dankaur on the afternoon of Friday, 4 May. Police have registered a case of rape and loot under Sections 376 and 392 of IPC and launched an investigation into the matter.
Local residents said that two armed criminals visited Mandi Shyamnagar village on a TVS Apache bike in the afternoon, and found four women sitting outside their homes. The criminals asked the woman to hand over the earrings and anklets, threatening to open fire if they resisted the robbery. The women got scared and handed over the jewellery to the criminals.

A woman’s body that was cut into three pieces was found in a drain in outer Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar on Friday, 4 May evening. The police are trying to identify the person.
A senior police officer said that a passer-by noticed the body after which the PCR call was made around 4 pm.
“When the police reached the spot, the body was recovered. It was cut into three pieces. The female appears to be 16-20 years old,” he said, adding that the crime team has also inspected the spot.
The police said that they have registered a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC and are trying to identify the person.
“The body was not in a decomposed state. We are sharing the information with all police stations. Previous cases of kidnapping and missing persons records are being checked to identify the woman,” the officer added.
