1. Journalist Shot Dead by Unidentified Assailants in Uttar Pradesh

A 35-year-old year-old journalist, Naveen Gupta, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kanpur’s Bilhaur on Thursday, police said.

Gupta, a contributor for the leading Hindi daily Hindustan, is survived by his wife and a four-year-old son.

Gupta was shot dead at about 7 pm when he had gone out behind his brother’s garments shop.

His brother and other people rushed out on hearing the gunshots and found Gupta’s body lying in a pool of blood. Five bullets hit him on the face and chest, police added. The motive behind the murder was not immediately known.

2. CISF Jawan Shoots Dead 3 in J&K Unit

A CISF jawan allegedly shot dead three persons, including his wife and colleague, at his unit in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

The incident took place at about 2:00 am at the Central Industrial Security Force unit tasked to guard the NHPC power plant at Dhulasti in Kishtwar district of the state.

The jawan reportedly killed his wife, colleague and the wife of the colleague over an extra-marital affair, they said.

"We have suspended the accused jawan and the force will take care of the children of both the families," CISF Director General OP Singh told PTI in Delhi.

3. ED Raids Multiple Locations in Pharma Money Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids in seven places in the National Capital Region, on Thursday, in connection with a Rs 5,000-crore money laundering probe against directors and associates of Gujarat-based pharma firm Sterling Biotech, official sources said.

The raiding teams seized documents and computer hardware such as hard drives and CDs from the associates of the owners of the firm, they said.

The CBI alleged that the company took loans of over Rs 5,000 crore from a consortium led by Andhra Bank which have turned into non-performing assets.

According to the FIR, the total dues of the group companies were Rs 5,383 crore as on 31 December 2016.

4. Man Arrested for Raping Three-Year-Old Girl

A 22-year-old man, who is already facing trial in a case of rape, was arrested on Thursday, 30 November, for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old in Kothapada village in Odisha's Kendrapara district.

Accused Rajesh Mallick confessed to the crime by stating that he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol, said Sandhyarani Beura, inspector of Rajkanika police station.

Mallick is facing trial in a rape case that dates back to 17 February 2016, Beura said, adding, his victim was a six-year-old girl at that time.

The accused, who lived near victim's house, lured her with sweets, took the girl to a deserted paddy field and allegedly raped her there on 13 November, she added.

5. Bengaluru Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Grandparents for Money

A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his grandparents and stealing money and gold from their home in the city, police said on Wednesday.

"Pramod, along with his two friends Hassan Pasha and Praveen, killed his grandparents on Sunday at about 3 pm, at their home in Ashwath Nagar (a suburb in the eastern part of the city)," Commissioner of Police T Suneel Kumar told reporters in Bengaluru.

The deceased, Govindan (65) and Saroja (60), were the maternal grandparents of Praveen. While the incident occured on Sunday, the crime went unreported for two days with family members believing that the elderly couple had gone to Kanchipuram.

The bodies were found by the police on Tuesday night after the neighbours called the police as a foul smell emanated from the house, the police commissioner said.

6. Minor Apprehended for Shooting at Toll Tax Employee

A minor was apprehended on Thursday for allegedly firing at a toll tax employee in a case of mistaken identity last month in Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan, police said.

On 20 October, Amar Singh (24) an employee at the Daurala Toll Tax was shot at by three motorcycle-borne persons.

The three accused, including two juveniles were identified during the investigation, the police said.

One of the juveniles was apprehended on Thursday from the Delhi-Sonipat border and a country-made pistol used in the incident seized from him, police said.

The other accused, a juvenile, is already lodged in a childrens home in connection with an attempt to murder case, the police added.

7. Woman Gang-Raped in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men in Muzaffarnagar, police said on Thursday.

The woman was waiting at Miranpur bus stand yesterday when the accused came on two bikes and offered to drop her.

They, instead, took her to a sugarcane field, the police said. There, the three accused raped her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone, Circle Officer SKS Pratap said.

The police said a case has been registered against the accused, who are absconding.

8. Two Held in Connection With Hindu Sangharsh Sena Leader's Killing

Two persons were arrested in connection with the killing of a 45-year-old Hindu Sangharsh Sena leader in Amritsar last month, police said .

Vipan Sharma was shot dead in broad day light in the Bharat Nagar locality on Batala road on October 30.

Amritsar Police Commissioner S S Shrivastav said, in a press conference, that two accused persons, Vishal Sharma and Kunvarbir Singh, had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing.

Police claimed to have recovered the bike used in the killing from Vishal Sharma.

9. Man Held for Extortion Bid

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Hyderabad, on Thursday, for allegedly trying to extort Rs 1.5 crore from a businessman by posing as a member of the Mohammed Nayeemuddin gang, the police said.

The accused, Nagesh S, allegedly called up the businessman on November 24 and demanded Rs 1.5 crore by threatening him.

A case was registered under sections 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against Nagesh, a Saroor Nagar police station official said.

"A police team arrested Nagesh in a decoy operation when he came to pick up cash bag," he added.
