1. Teen Boy Shot Dead over Quarrel with Neighbour

A 17-year-old boy was shot dead in south Delhi's Neb Sarai area, police said on Monday.

The incident took place when the teenager, Sahil, and his friends were sitting on the terrace of a stitching centre in Tigri, they said. The victim received a call and went out to attend it when he was surrounded by a group of people, one of whom shot him in his stomach and thigh, police said. Sahil was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment, they said.

A man, presumed to be a juvenile, has been detained, police said, adding his age was being verified. It is suspected that the killing was a fallout of a quarrel between Sahil's friend and his neighbour.

2. Body of Newborn Found in Dustbin

The body of a newborn girl was found in a dustbin near the Safdarjung Hospital mortuary in south Delhi on Monday, the police said. A senior officer said the police received a PCR call regarding the newborn’s body in the dustbin.

“From the body tag, we discovered that the premature baby was born to a 25-year-old woman at 11.58 pm on 27 January. The baby was stillborn and weighed 1.42 kg,” said a police officer.

The baby’s parents were traced to Rajapuri in Delhi with the help of hospital records. The baby’s father said his wife had given birth to a premature stillborn girl. The hospital authorities handed over her body to the parents after completing formalities. Clueless about the cremation procedure, the father dumped the body in the dustbin.

3. Decomposed Body of 30-Year-Old Woman Found in Delhi

The decomposed body of a 30- year-old woman was found inside a bed box at her rented house in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area today, police said.

The husband of the deceased, who was missing, was the primary suspect in the killing, they said.

At around 4.30 pm, the police were informed about the body by an acquaintance of the woman who had come to the house after detecting a foul smell emanating from it, they added. A hunt was launched to nab the husband, Biswal said, adding that the body was taken to AIIMS for postmortem.

4. Patna Student Shoots Himself During Whatsapp Video Chat with Girlfriend

A 19-year-old intermediate student from Patna shot himself in his bedroom while video chatting with his girlfriend on WhatsApp in the early hours of Monday, police said. Police said Akash Kumar alias Bunty , a resident of Saichak, apparently committed suicide after his girlfriend sought time to convince her parents about the couple getting married.

“When we recovered Bunty’s cell phone and checked, we were shocked to discover that he was video chatting with his girlfriend live as he shot himself. His girlfriend also confirmed that they were video chatting and had an argument when Bunty suddenly pulled out a gun and shot himself,” DSP (Phulwarisharif) Ramakant Prasad said.

The couple began their video chat late Sunday and the shot was fired around 3am Monday, the police said.

5. Techie from Andhra Falls to Death from Ramp at Chennai Airport

Mystery shrouds the death of a 29-year old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh who fell from an elevated ramp at the domestic airport in Chennai on Monday.

Chaitanya, hailing from Vijayawada, fell from the ramp near gate no 4 of the domestic departure terminal and rushed to a government hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.

The man was employed with a software company in Bengaluru and he had spoken to someone over phone before he fell from the ramp, they said. To a question whether suicide was suspected, a senior police officer told PTI “investigation is on,” adding the man sustained grievous injuries in the incident as he fell from an height of approximately 50 feet.

6. Man Ends Life After Police Questioning

A 25-year-old man on Monday allegedly committed suicide after the police released him following a four-hour detention.

Bhavesh Rathod was detained for his alleged role in a rioting incident in Limbayat area, where some youths were beaten up and over 20 vehicles damaged over petty conflicts.

Rathod, was picked up under suspicion on Monday. He was kept at the police station for questioning. Udhna police released him after four hours and warned him to not leave the house.

After reaching home, Rathod allegedly hanged himself with a rope. While his body was sent to a hospital for post mortem, the police recorded statements of his mother and neighbours.

Udhna police inspector Chetan Jadav said, “We are trying find out the reason behind him taking such a drastic step. At present it is difficult to say anything.”

7. Drunk Cop Crashes Car in Hyderabad

A police Inspector left two persons injured and three vehicles damaged when the four-wheeler he was driving in a drunken condition rammed them at Yapral in Jawaharnagar on Monday. Rachakonda police higher-ups are likely to suspend him.

When subjected to breath analyser test Inspector G. Girish Rao, who earlier worked as Detective Inspector of Jawaharnagar police station, was found to have more than 200 mg blood alcohol content, Kushaiguda ACP P Krishna Murthy said.

At around 8.15 pm, the Inspector was passing by Yapral in his Multi-Purpose Vehicle when he lost control and hit a two-wheeler and an auto-rickshaw. Passers-by intercepted his vehicle as he tried to speed away. The Jawaharnagar police rushed to the spot and detained him.

A case was registered against him. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwath said that departmental action would be initiated against Mr. Girish.

8. Eight Month Old Raped by 28-Year-Old in Delhi

An eight-month-old baby girl was raped allegedly by her cousin in northwest Delhi's Netaji Subhash Place, police said today. The accused has been arrested, they said.

The 28-year-old confessed to raping the baby yesterday under the influence of alcohol, said a senior police officer. When the girl's mother, who works as a maid, returned home at around 12.30 pm, she saw blood stains on her daughter's clothes and informed her husband. The baby was rushed to a hospital where it was found that she had been sexually assaulted, police said.

Subsequently, the police were informed and a case was registered.

9. Punjab DSP Shoots Himself During Students’ Protest, Dies

Punjab Police deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Baljinder Singh Sandhu, 50, committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed weapon during a students’ protest at a constituent college of Punjabi University in Jaitu, 35km from Faridkot, on Monday.

A constable, Lal Singh, was critically injured as the bullet hit him after piercing through the DSP’s head. The DSP and cop were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, where doctors declared Sandhu dead, while Lal Singh’s condition is stated to be critical.

The DSP had gone to the college to resolve an issue between students and the local police. The students were protesting against “moral policing” by Jaitu station house officer (SHO) Gurmeet Singh who had allegedly detaining three college students, including a girl.

Video of the incident, which went viral, showed the DSP pointing his pistol at his own head and saying “I will shoot”. Within seconds, a gunshot was heard and Sandhu fell to the ground.
