1. Revenue Official Held for ‘Raping’ Constable

A woman constable in Moradabad district of Bareilly has accused a revenue official of raping her on the pretext of marriage. The suspect was allegedly thrashed by the woman’s husband, who she had married only 20 days ago, and her brother on Tuesday, 8 May. The official was arrested on Wednesday and booked under IPC Section 376 (rape).

According to police sources, the woman is a native of Meerut while the accused official, a resident of Moradabad, is posted in Sambhal district.

Vikas Saxena, station house officer (SHO) of Manjhola police station, said, “The official and woman constable had met each other some years ago. In her complaint, the woman said that the official had raped her several times in the past on the pretext of marriage and also threatened to release their intimate videos online.”

2. Four Held for TN Cop’s Murder

The Tirunelveli police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder of Special Branch constable Jagadish Durai near Vijayanarayanam on Monday, 7 May, in connection with the murder of cop Jagadish Durai, who was beaten to death when he tried to stop and arrest illicit sand miners.

Cops said Krishnan (50) and Murugaperumal (20) of Thamaraikulam and Manikumar (24) and Raja Ravi (25) of Kalmanickapuram were arrested on Thursday, 10 May

After being produced in a Nanguneri court, the four were remanded in judicial custody. The hunt is on to nab Murugan, the kingpin of the gang that murdered the constable.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Amitabh Bachan of Thamaraikulam surrendered before a judicial magistrate court on Thursday. He was later remanded in judicial custody.

3. Kidnapping of Delhi Ex-Councillor’s Son: Three Wanted Criminals Arrested

The Delhi Police Special Cell have arrested three rewardee criminals from Dwarka Sector 23 on Wednesday, 9 May, after a brief exchange of fire. The accused, Manjeet Dabas, Bhagat and Arshu Sholeen, were wanted in a case of kidnapping of Delhi’s former councillor Shambhu Sharma’s 20-year-old son from northwest Delhi in 2016.

According to a police officer, Manjeet was a rewardee of Rs 1 lakh while Bhagat and Arshu were rewardees of Rs 50,000 each by the Delhi Police.

Shambhu’s son was kidnapped by these criminals wearing police uniforms from Netaji Subhash Place area when he was on his way to his college in a car. His car was chased and intercepted by the men in another car. Four of them were arrested a week after the kidnapping by the crime branch; however, the son was rescued only after Sharma paid Rs 1 crore to the alleged abductors.

4. Cops Arrest Habitual Offender Involved in 26 Robberies in Pune

The Pune police arrested a man for breaking into a house and stealing Rs 10 lakh worth of jewellery. The police arrested the man within two hours of the case being registered, following which he was found to be involved in 26 other robberies as well.

The man was identified as Himmat Peter D Rebello, a resident of Altius Drome Society in Vadeshwarnagar of Kharadi, Pune. All the 26 cases against him were registered at Yerawada police station, between 2012 and 2015.

Rebello was arrested in a case filed at Chanagannagar police station under Sections 454 (trespassing or house breaking), 457 (trespassing or house breaking at night), 380 (theft in house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Rebello was arrested two hours after the case was registered against him at Chandannagar police station. The case is being investigated by Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Shridhar Bhosale of Chandannagar police station.

5. Mason Rapes 6-Yr-Old Girl, Booked

A mason working in a house in Gurugram has been accused of raping the six-year-old daughter of the security guard of the house. A case has been registered at the women’s police station, though the accused is still at large.

The girl’s father, who is originally from Kannauj district in Uttar Pradesh, had gone to the market to purchase plumbing material required for ongoing renovation and repair of the house on 5 May. Taking advantage of the situation, the mason sexually assaulted the minor girl. The matter was reported to police on 9 May. The girl’s mother had died three years ago. Her father had joined service as security guard in the house in Block C of Sushant Lok 1 four months ago, and the two had been living in the same house since then.

“Repair and maintenance work of the house where I work is currently in progress. Mason Mukesh and helper Pandu have been working here for over a week,” said the father in his complaint.

6. Writer Arrested on Charge of Murdering His Son

The SS Colony police in Chennai, which arrested writer Soundarapandian alias Souba, along with two of his farm workers, on Wednesday, 9 May, on the charge of murdering his son Vipin, 27, was sent to police custody on Thursday after producing him before a judicial magistrate court.

Farm workers R Ganesan, 42, of Nilakottai and S Boomi, 40, of Pallapatti, were sent to judicial custody. Judicial magistrate V Uma granted the police custody of Soundarapandian. A former journalist popularly known as Souba, Soundarapandian brought out the issue of female infanticide prevailing in Usilampatti region.

The movie, Seevalaperi Pandi, was based on his story.

“He was frustrated over his son’s addiction to liquor and drugs after he started beating him and abusing him every day,” Thilagarthidal Assistant Commissioner of Police M Vetriselvan said.

7. Lawyer Murdered in Allahabad, Hotelier Held

Two unidentified assailants on Thursday, 10 May, shot dead a 42-year-old lawyer point blank while he was on his way to the Allahabad district court, where he practiced. Rajesh Srivastav was shot in his head while he was riding his bike to the court.

“CCTV footage from a nearby building shows around 10.30 am, a bike with two men wearing helmets riding up from behind Rajesh Srivastava and suddenly Srivastava’s bike falls to the ground. This was a spot near Manmohan park. Srivastava died on the spot, he took two bullets on his left temple,’’ said a police officer. He was declared dead at a nearby hospital.

Pradeep Jaiswal, a hotel owner, was arrested in connection with the murder. Sources said Jaiswal owns a hotel in Srivastava’s Daraganj neighbourhood. “There was some dispute between the two over a portion of the hotel encroaching on Srivastav’s land. The two had a spat on Thursday morning over the issue.”

8. 36-Year-Old Mumbai Man Killed in Brawl Over Taxi, Four Arrested

An 18-year-old was arrested and three minors detained for allegedly killing a man in a brawl over boarding a taxi at Chembur, Mumbai during the early hours of Monday, 7 May.

The incident occurred at 2.30am near Chembur colony bus stop on RC Road. Three men — Rambabu Mahadev Savita, 23, Surendra Natha Singh, 36, and Brij Singh, 23 — were on their way home from South Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Krishna Boina, 18, and three minor boys (two aged 17 and third one 16), were waiting at RC Road to board a taxi to Kurla. “When the taxi stopped at RC Road, the four teenagers were waiting for the three men to disembark as they wanted to hail the same taxi to Kurla,” said Sudhir Gadkari, police inspector, Chembur police station.

Police said that the three men were in an inebriated condition and were taking too long to pay the driver, which enraged the teenagers.

9. Five-Year-Old Girl Raped by Tutor’s Cousin in Begusarai

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her tutor’s cousin when she went for her tuition classes to his residence at Patapur village under Mufassil police station area in Begusarai district of Patna on Wednesday, 9 May.

“According to the complaint lodged by girl’s parents, the child’s woman tutor was not feeling well and asked kids to take a leave, but her cousin, Avinash Kumar (18), insisted that he would teach the kids. After the tuition class, Avinash asked other kids to go and allegedly raped the five-year-old girl in his room,” SHO of Mufassil police station Lal Mohan Singh said.

“When the child’s father was informed that his daughter did not return from the tuition class, he went to the residence of the woman tutor and found the girl sleeping in a room. However, after returning home, the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents. She was later admitted to a local hospital due to internal bleeding,” the SHO said, adding the statement of the girl was recorded.
