The police have arrested a man on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl at Bitana village under Binjharpur police station limits in Odisha's Jajpur district.
In his complaint filed with the Binjharpur police, the victim's father said the girl was raped at the man's shop at Bitana market when she had gone there to buy chocolates with her 9-year-old younger sister.
The minor girl had gone to the local market to make photocopies of her father's documents with her younger sister on Sunday afternoon. After it was over, the two sisters went to the shop to buy chocolates, police said.
"The accused took the two girls into a room in the pretext of giving them best quality chocolates and tried to molest them. The younger sister managed to come out of the room by biting the accused. The accused took advantage of it and raped the 11-year-old girl," said AK Mohanty, Inspector-in-Charge of Binjharpur police station.

An Indian-origin Barclays Bank employee from London has been jailed for over six years for his role in a conspiracy to launder over 2.5 million pounds.
Jinal Pethad used the 'Dridex' Trojan malware in the scam, which involved the 29-year-old acting as the "personal bank manager" to money launderers Pavel Gincota and Ion Turcan. He set up 105 sham bank accounts for them using false identity documents.
Pethad pleaded guilty to conspiring to launder money between 2014 and 2016 at the Old Bailey court here last week and was sentenced to six years and four months in prison.

A 50-year-old man was allegedly robbed and strangled to death in the Shamli district, police said on Monday. According to police, the alleged robber also died in an accident while on his way back from the crime scene.
The accused entered the house of Om Prakash, a sugar mill employee, robbed his belongings and killed him, police said. Police said they received an information that a person, identified as Johnny, who had met with a fatal accident, was found with the looted goods.
"A bike, one laptop, jewellery and cash were recovered near his body," the police official said.

A British woman employed at the UK embassy in Lebanon has been found murdered, a senior official said, adding that the crime did not appear to be political.
"Our first impression is that it's not politically motivated," the official, who is involved in the investigation, told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.
He confirmed that the victim's name was Rebecca Dykes but could not elaborate on the exact circumstances of her death. The Lebanese official said her body was found "on the side of the Emile Lahoud road" just north of Beirut on Monday.

The body of an unidentified man was found on Monday in a drain in northeast Delhi's Welcome colony, the police said. The body is yet to be identified.
The body of a man, aged between 25 and 30 years, was found in a plastic bag during a cleaning work.
"Some people were cleaning the drain when they spotted a bag floating in the drain. They then informed the police," a senior police officer said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla said they have registered a case of murder and have launched a probe in the matter.
Police also said that some parts of the body were missing.

A Bihar court on Monday awarded life imprisonment to four members of a family for the murder of a relative over a property dispute in 2009.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar sentenced to life Domi Yadav, his wife Phulwa Devi and their sons Gore Lal Yadav and Ajay Yadav in the 2009 murder case.The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the four.
As per the FIR, Domi Yadav assisted by his three family members had stoned to death his cousin Hari Yadav over a property dispute at Nanura village of this district.

Police on Monday nabbed two accused hours after they allegedly snatched mobile phones from two people in the Amar Colony area of southeast Delhi, a top official said.
Shubham (19), son of a Commodore posted in Vizag, and his sister got down from a cab near Sapna Park in East of Kailash at around 1.30am and were walking through the park to their residence when they were stopped by two men. The duo allegedly snatched their mobile phones and fled from the scene, DCP (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said.
The complainant spotted a police vehicle and alerted them. The policemen drove in the direction indicated by him and caught Mohan (35) from the Amar Colony area with the help of a local police team, he added.

Two motorcycle borne men on Monday looted Rs 2 lakh from a farmer near Mora talab under Bhagan Bigaha police station of Bihar's Nalanda district.
The farmer was returning after withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from a nationalised bank when the two men came in a motorbike and snatched the bag containing the money and sped away.
Two suspects were found in CCTV footages of the bank and the police were trying to arrest them, the police said.

Three unidentified men allegedly stabbed to death a 64-year-old liquor vendor and looted the shop after an argument turned ugly in Haryana's Yamunanagar, police said.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when three persons, arrived on a bike at the liquor shop and picked up a fight with the elderly man. They then thrashed and stabbed him to death.
The deceased was a resident of Vaksi Maholla of Vishnu Nagar. The contractor of the shop also alleged the assailants stole some cash from the shop, a police official said.
