1. Man Held for Raping Differently-Abled Woman in Jharkhand

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 29 April for allegedly raping a differently-abled woman in Ramgarh district, Jharkhand, police said. The incident happened in Bhadwa village under the jurisdiction of West Bokaro police station on Saturday, officials said.

The woman happens to be the accused's cousin, a police officer said.

In her complaint, the woman stated that her cousin raped her in the early hours when she had gone out to respond to nature's call. The man was arrested soon after the FIR was lodged, the Station-In-Charge of West Bokaro police station, Rameshwar Bhagat, said.

Since the woman has a hearing and speaking disorder, she could not scream for help, Bhagat said.

She has been sent for medical examination, he said.

2. Two NCP Workers Shot Dead in Maharashtra

Two workers of the NCP were shot dead by three unidentified men in the district on the evening of Saturday, 28 April.

The NCP workers were standing on the main road of Jamkhed town, nearly 70 km from here, when the three assailants came on a motorcycle and fired about eight rounds at them at 6.20 pm, district Superintendent of Police Ranjankumar Sharma said.

Both the deceased were residents of Jamkhed, he said.

They were identified as Yogesh Ambadas Ralebhat (30), the district vice president of the NCP's youth wing, and Rakesh Arjun Ralebhat (23), an executive committee member and office-bearer of the party's Jamkhed unit in Ahmednagar, he said.

No arrest has been made so far in connection with the killings, Sharma said, adding that a case under relevant sections was registered.

3. 14-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped in Odisha, Three Accused Arrested

A 14-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by three persons, including a minor, in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, police said on Sunday, 29 April..

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Tirtol police station on Friday, 27 April, the police said, adding that two of the accused were arrested and the minor accused was apprehended.

On Friday evening, the survivor was on her way to a coaching centre on a bicycle, when the trio allegedly forcibly dragged her into a bamboo forest, gagged her and took turns to rape her, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Tirtol Shiba Prasad Mallick said.

The accused had also threatened to kill the girl, if she talked about the incident to anybody, he added. After returning home, the girl narrated her ordeal to her mother, who lodged a police complaint on Saturday, 30 April.

4. Thane Man Gets Life Imprisonment for Burning Wife Alive

A Thane court has awarded life imprisonment to a 32-year-old man from the powerloom town of Bhiwandi for burning his wife alive in December 2012.

Additional Sessions Judge Ms S C Khalipe on 27 April sentenced Moharamali Shafiq Khan to life imprisonment, while pronouncing him guilty under IPC section 302 (murder) and others.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on him.

Additional public prosecutor Vandana Jadhav told the court that the deceased, Afsana Moharamali Khan, and the accused, a labourer, had got married just five months prior to the incident. She said the accused used to quarrel with his wife for dowry and ill-treat her.

On 19 December, 2012, the accused gagged his wife's mouth with a cloth, tied her hands behind, poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. He then closed the door, locked it from outside and ran away, the prosecution said.

5. Bengaluru Man Awarded Death Penalty for Rape, Murder of 6-Year-Old

A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to death by a city court for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Bengaluru last year.

The judge also directed the Karnataka government to pay Rs 2 lakh to the victim's parents. According to the prosecution, Balagar had raped and killed the girl on 21 April last year and kept her body hidden in his house.

The girl was reported missing since 20 April and on the basis of a complaint from her grandfather, the local police had registered a case.

The girl had come to her grandfather's house. Balagar, a neighbour of the victim's grandfather, lured the girl and took her to his house, where he raped and killed her, the prosecution said.

6. Guard, Cashier Killed at Delhi Wine Shop

Three bike-borne criminals on Thursday, 26 April looted Rs 12 lakh from a wine shop in the national capital and shot dead the shop's cashier and a security guard when they were shifting the cash box to a van, police said.

According to a police officer, the incident occurred at 2.30 pm in West Delhi's Narela near Vardhman mall when an SIS company's van came to collect cash from a wine shop of DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd).

The deceased have been identified as Rajnikant, who worked as a cashier in the shop, and security guard Prem Kumar, who accompanied the SIS cash van, he said.

7. Three Arrested for Kidnapping, Raping 14-Year-Old Girl in Surat

Three persons were arrested on Sunday, 29 April in Bardoli town of Surat district for allegedly kidnapping and gangraping a 14-year-old girl, the police said.

The police said the accused Naresh Jaware, along with his accomplices, Akash and Chhotu, had on Thursday, kidnapped the victim and raped her after taking her to a desolate place in Bardoli town.

"The victim was returning home from a shop on Thursday evening when the trio approached her and offered to drop her home in an autorickshaw," a police official said.

"The autorickshaw took a detour and then the three forcibly took her to a building in a nearby market and raped her on the first floor there," the official said.

8. Doctor Shot at in Delhi, Suspects Brothers Behind Attack

A doctor received four gunshot injuries early on Sunday, 29 April when four unidentified assailants fired at him near his farmhouse in south Delhi, police said.

Police said the victim Hans Nagar suspected his two brothers were behind the murderous attack.

Hans Nagar had reached near the entrance to his farmhouse in Fatehpuri Beri from his clinic in south Delhi's Siri Fort area around 1.50 am when four unidentified attackers riding two motorcycles stopped nearby and fired more than a dozen rounds at him.

Nagar said that he also fired from his licensed pistol and injured one-two attackers, Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said.
