1. Two Held for Latvian Woman’s Rape and Murder in Kerala

Kerala police have arrested two persons for the rape and murder of a Latvian woman – whose decomposed and headless body was found from an isolated mangrove near Kovalam beach on 21 April.

Fifty days after the woman was reported missing, Kerala director general of police Loknath Behra on 3 May said a drug-peddler and an unauthorised tourist guide had been arrested and charged with rape, murder, illegal confinement and under narcotic substances act.

The 33-year-old victim was reported missing on 14 March from an Ayurveda hospital on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram where she had come along with her male companion and sister in February.

2. Arrest All 7 Accused, Says Father of Nuh Gangrape Victim

Three days after a 17-year-old girl committed suicide in Nuh, Haryana after she was allegedly gangraped by seven men, her family on Thursday, 3 May accused the police of delaying action in the case.

The teenager’s father met the Superintendent of Police on Thursday seeking immediate arrest of the accused and blamed the police for delay in action.

“All seven accused in the case have been identified but no arrests have been made so far,” said the father. He alleged that the accused are well-off and well-connected, and that the police are acting under their influence.

The Class XII student was at home along with her sister when the accused allegedly came on motorcycles and forcibly took her to a secluded place on Sunday evening. The accused then allegedly took turns to rape her and fled the spot.

3. Guard Accused of Killing Sena Leader Arrested in Thane

The Thane rural police have arrested a security guard suspected of killing Shiv Sena leader Shailesh Nimse, 43, (Shakha pramukh) by strangling him to death. The accused, Vijay Wakh, 23, was taken into police custody after he visited his relatives to get money.

“Wakh had strangled Shailesh to death following which he went into hiding in Pune and Nashik by changing his identity. After we got information that Wakh was coming to Bhiwandi to meet his relatives as he has spent all his money and wanted more, we caught him and he later confessed to the murder,” said additional police inspector – Pramod Badak from the Thane rural.

According to reports of the investigation, Nimse’s wife Vaishali, 40, along with her neighbour Pramod Lute, 32, and three others are prime suspects in the case.

4. Drunk Engineer Rams Suv into Shanty, Two Women Injured

A family of seven members had a narrow escape when a Scorpio, driven by an allegedly drunk engineer, ploughed through their roadside shanty at Colony Number 4 light point and injured two women on the night of 2 May.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Gurpreet Singh of Patiala. He was arrested and his medical examination confirmed the presence of alcohol in his body.

The injured women were identified as Neha, 21, and her cousin Rupa, 22. The two were rushed to GMCH-32 and discharged after preliminary treatment. The incident took place around 12 am. The parents of Neha and Rupa also reside in the same shanty where they work on making the quilts.

5. Auto Rickshaw Driver, Friends, Gangrape Woman

A man was arrested on Thursday, 4 May in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old woman in Sohna on Sunday, 29 April, the police said.

The accused has been identified as Aakash, they said. The woman was allegedly gang-raped by an autorickshaw driver and his four friends. The victim told the police that she was waiting for a bus to Aligarh at Sohna bus stand on Sunday night when the autorickshaw driver approached her.

He told her that she was waiting at the wrong place since the bus to Aligarh left from Gurugram and not Sohna. He offered to drop her till the Gurugram bus stand but drove her to a secluded place on the road leading to Raisina.

6. Amreli SP Arrested in Kidnapping Case Suspended

The Gujarat government on Thursday, 3 May passed a formal order suspending Amreli Superintendent of Police Jagdish Patel, who was arrested on 23 April in connection with alleged kidnapping and attempt to extort money, including Bitcoin, from a Surat-based builder.

The Home Department order stated that since Patel is under arrest for over 48 hours, he would be deemed suspended under All India Service rule.

The SP was arrested by CID (Crime) after an inspector of Amreli Local Crime Branch, arrested earlier in the case, reportedly told investigators that he was only following the order of Patel, his superior.

7. Minor Girl Sexually Assaulted by Elderly in Guntur

In yet another horrific incident of crime against minor girls, a nine-year-old was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 55-year-old man in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, triggering outrage with locals vandalising his house and women’s outfits staging protests on Thursday, 3 May.

The incident occurred Wednesday night at Dachepalli village, police said. The man, the girl’s neighbour, committed the crime after luring her to his house by promising her chocolates. Special teams have been formed to trace the accused Subbaiah who is absconding.

The girl has been hospitalised and her condition is stable, district collector Kona Sasidhar told reporters after visiting her at the hospital and consoling her family. DGP M Malakondaiah said as many as 15 police teams were searching for the accused, a rickshaw puller.

8. Kidnapped for Ransom, 19-Year-Old Murdered in Kota

A Kota-based stone trader’s 19-year-old son, who was allegedly abducted for ransom, was found murdered on Thursday, 3 May police said.

The police said the mother of the deceased, Vishal Mewara, lodged a missing person’s report at Borkhera police station on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old, a second-year student at the government polytechnic college, belongs to Khairabad region of Kota, and was staying at a rented accommodation in Aakash Nagar area of Kota city for last one year for his studies.

Circle inspector of Borkhera police station Lokendra Singh Paliwal said Vishal’s father, Banwari Mewara (48), informed the police that someone had called him and demanded Rs 15 lakh ransom for releasing his son. The abductors had asked the family not to inform the police and deliver the ransom at 4 pm on Thursday.

9. Gang of 3 Robs Executive After Offering Lift

A senior manager of the private security firm Group 4 Security, was allegedly robbed by three men after he was offered a ride in a WagonR by its driver and his accomplices in Gurugram.

The accused snatched his laptop, wallet, two rings and mobile phone, before dumping him near Delhi Cantonment. An FIR has been registered at Sector 18 police station. Similar incidents have occurred in the same area in the recent past, but police are yet to identify the perpetrator.

The complainant, Rakesh Chopra, 35, a resident of Dwarka, works as a senior manager at Group 4 Security, whose office is located in Sector 39.

According to his complaint, around 9 pm on Monday, 29 April, he reached Iffco Chowk and was waiting for transport to reach home. A WagonR stopped by, and when he enquired if he could get a lift to Dwarka, the driver agreed. There were two other men sitting in the car, who he thought were other commuters.
