1. Girl Gang-Raped at Dehradun Boarding School; Police Say Matter Kept Under Wraps for 2 Weeks by School Authorities

A Class 10 girl was gang raped allegedly by fellow students at a boarding school in Sahaspur in Dehradun district and the matter was kept under wraps by the school authorities for over two weeks, according to the police.

Nine persons — four students accused of perpetrating the crime and five members of the school staff, including its director, principal and administrative officer — have been arrested, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said on Tuesday.

The matter came to light on Monday, over a month after it took place on 14 August, he said. The survivor first confided her ordeal to her elder sister when she realised that she might be pregnant.

2. Sodomy Accused Paraded Around Village on Buffalo

A man accused of sodomising an 8-year-old boy at a village in Rampur district was paraded around on a buffalo with his face blackened and a garland of shoes around his neck Sunday.

Two FIRs were registered at Swaar police station — one against the accused and another against some of the villagers on the basis of a complaint filed by the accused — after a video of the latter being paraded went viral on social media on Monday.

“According to the FIRs registered, on Sunday, one Farooq Ali, 20, took an 8-year-old boy to a secluded place in his village and sexually assaulted him. After the boy informed his parents, they along with some others villagers caught Ali. To shame him, they blackened his face, made him wear a garland of shoes and sit on a buffalo. The villagers then paraded him through the village and made a video of it. It went viral the next day,” said Station House Officer (SHO) of Swaar police station, Rajesh Kumar Tiwari.

3. ‘Murder Witness’ Killed in Firing at Meerut Village

A 17-year-old domestic help was shot dead and another was injured when an absconding accused in a double murder case allegedly fired at them on Tuesday in Meerut’s Alipur Morna village.

According to police, the domestic help, Raja, was a witness in the double murder case. Police said the accused, Sonu, carrying an award of Rs 50,000 on his head, had an old enmity with one Johny. The latter was serving a jail term for the murder of Sonu’s father and was released from jail on bail in August. Sonu had killed Johny’s parents in July, police claimed. After that incident, Johny’s family was given police security. The police guard was present in the house when the incident happened, police said.

4. 7-Year-Old Girl Raped in Delhi Park, Brutalised With Water Pipe

A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Shahdara’s Seemapuri area, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday night, they added.

In a statement to the police, the victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was raped by a neighbour. The girl was playing outside her residence at around 10:30 pm on Monday when the accused took her to the bushes near the DLF chowk and raped her, a senior police officer said.

The victim was bleeding when she returned home. On being questioned by her mother, she narrated the crime.

5. Man Gets 3-Year Jail Term for Poisoning Tiger in Ooty

A farmer hailing from a village in Ooty, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years imprisonment for poisoning a tiger to death in 2014.

Forest sources that an adult female tiger was found dead near the carcass of a buffalo inside the jungles at Thengumarahada village in the foothills of the Nilgiris on 20 June, 2014.

Strange as it may sound, forest officials suspected foul play in the tiger’s death.

Investigations revealed that the tiger was said to be visiting human settlements along the forest fringes, and tried to prey on cattle reared by villagers there.

6. Telangana Honour Killing: Victims’ Father-In-Law, Six Others Arrested

Seven people, including two men acquitted in the murder of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya, were arrested for the recent alleged honour killing of a Dalit Christian man in Telangana's Nalgonda district, police said on Tuesday.

The killing of the 23-year-old P Pranay Kumar, who had married an upper caste woman Amrutha Varshini, at Miryalguda in Nalgonda district on 14 September had sparked outrage in the state.

Amrutha's father Maruti Rao, who she had accused of being behind her husband's murder along with her uncle Shravan, was among those arrested in what turned out to be a case of contract killing of Rs 1 crore, Nalgonda police chief AV Ranganath told reporters. Maruti Rao, who was opposed to the marriage of his daughter, conspired with other accused to eliminate Kumar and also paid an advance of Rs 15 lakh, he said.

7. Wanted Criminal Shot Dead in Gurugram

A wanted criminal, who carried a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was shot dead in a gunfight on Tuesday, police said.

Bhanwar Singh alias Bhudev was killed by a unit of Crime Branch of the Gurugram Police, led by Manoj Verma, in Manesar.

“Singh was wanted in several cases including murder, attempt to murder and extortion. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head,” a senior police officer said in a statement.

Acting on a tip-off, the police team located Singh and his accomplice in a room where they were having drinks. While Singh was shot dead, his accomplice managed to flee the spot.

8. Nashik Man Beaten to Death for Refusing to Withdraw Daughter’s Molestation Case

A 55-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by seven people in Maharashtra after he refused to withdraw a molestation case lodged by his daughter against one of them, police said.

Four of the attackers, including Sayyad Sayeed, who had allegedly molested the woman, have been arrested while a search is on for the other accused, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratnakar Navale said on Monday.

The woman was allegedly molested by Sayeed at Golden Nagar in Malegaon town of Nashik in 2015, he said. She had registered a complaint against him at Pawardi police station and the case is pending in a local court.

9. FIR Registered Against Flipkart Owners for Selling ‘Fake’ Samsung Laptop

The Khanna police has finally filed an FIR against owners of online retail selling giant ‘Flipkart’ for allegedly selling fake and duplicate laptop after three years of investigation.

The owners of Flipkart and a customer care executive has been booked after one Shiv Nandan Kumar Vinayak, a resident of Timber Market in town Doraha of Khanna in Ludhiana, claimed that he was sold a fake Samsung laptop by Flipkart. Later when his laptop got stolen and he contacted Samsung to get the MAC address of the laptop to help track it, the serial number and model of his laptop didn’t match with their records. Further, the Samsung customer support staff declared that they never sold this product and it belonged to some other company.

10. Delhi Woman Rescued From Brother’s House, Lived Captive for 2 Yrs Without So Much as a Toilet

A 50-year-old woman, allegedly held captive by her brother for two years, was found lying in her own excreta in Delhi's Rohini. The Delhi Commission for Women said it rescued her from her brother's house. She was allegedly kept in horrific conditions and given only one piece of bread every four days.

The woman was found on an open terrace at her brother's house. She had been starving for several days, the DCW said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that she was "reduced to bones."

"The 50-year-old woman tortured, starved and held captive by own brother for 2 years. When we rescued her from terrace, she was lying in her excreta. She is unable to talk, walk and even recognise people," DCW chief Swati Maliwal said on Twitter, adding that an FIR has been filed against the accused but he is yet to be arrested.
