1. Suspected Indian Mujahideen Bomb-Maker Who Fled Batla Raid Arrested: Delhi Police
The Delhi Police on Wednesday said it had arrested a wanted Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative who had purportedly escaped from the scene of the 2008 Batla House encounter in the national Capital, and was allegedly involved in serial blasts in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, Faizabad, Lucknow and Jaipur.
The police said 32-year-old Ariz Khan was apprehended by the Delhi Police special cell from the Indo-Nepal border on Tuesday evening.

2. Chennai Resident Used Two Wives to Smuggle Gold, Caught at Mumbai Airport
A man who sold his flat to try his luck at gold smuggling has landed behind bars after the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of airport Customs caught him on Wednesday while he and his wife were walking out of the city airport with four kg gold worth Rs 1 crore.
The woman, Shivadevi Balachandran, had concealed the gold in her undergarment and was heading out of the airport with her husband, Balasubramaniam, when the customs officials intercepted her on suspicion.
Balasubramaniam told investigators he is based in Chennai, where he lives along with his two wives. He recently sold his flat for Rs 65 lakh to try his luck at gold smuggling. His modus operandi was to use his wives to bring gold from abroad after evading customs duty and sell it for profit in India.

3. Chembur Man Arrested for Attacking Wife
The Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly attacking his wife in her Chembur home. The police said the accused had secretly married his sister-in-law and when his wife confronted him, the accused, Kaisar Khan, and his 35-year-old sister-in-law Noori, reportedly attacked her. The incident took place on 29 January.
An officer from the RCF police station said, “The complainant Sharjahan and the accused have a 23-year-old son. But Kaisar apparently married his sister-in-law last year. After her divorce, the two had begun an illicit relationship and then got married.” On 6 December, the complainant came to know about their relationship, but the two denied it.

4. Traffic Constable Killed in Hit-and-Run Case in Ahmedabad
A traffic constable, who was severely injured after being hit by an unknown vehicle on Monday night in Sarkhej locality here, died during treatment on Wednesday, police said. Constable Sureshbhai Vasava died at the civil hospital here, an official of M division traffic police station said.
Vasava was returning home on a motorcycle after completing a night shift around 11 pm on Monday when an unknown vehicle hit him near Shantipura circle at Sarkhej. “He sustained fractures in shoulder and back and was in a serious condition,” said the police official.

5. Father Acquitted in Rape Case After Girl Says She Complained Because She Was Influenced by TV Show
A special court has acquitted a man accused of rape, after his 11-year-old daughter turned hostile in court, saying that she had complained against him after watching the TV series ‘Savdhan India’, which gave her the impression that her father’s “loving kisses” were “something wrong”.
The girl, in her statement to the magistrate under section 164 of CrPC, said that her father had done “nothing wrong” to her. She told the magistrate that she was upset with him for fighting with her mother over petty issues.

6. NCB Arrests Tanzanian Man With Drugs Worth Rs 1 Cr in Delhi
A 31-year-old Tanzanian man has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau for allegedly smuggling in heroin estimated to be worth Rs 1 crore, officials said on Wednesday.
Brayton N Lyimo was apprehended by the sleuths of the agency at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Tuesday night after he landed here from Mumbai.

7. Property Dealer From Bihar Shot Dead in Dwarka Over 'Gang War'
A 32-year-old property dealer was gunned down by three bike-borne assailants, while he was waiting in his Wagon R car at a traffic signal in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Sector-23 on Wednesday evening. At least half a dozen bullets were fired at the car, four of which hit the property dealer, killing him on the spot.
Police said the murder was a fallout of a ‘gangwar’ in Bihar’s Siwan district between two suspected gangsters, one led by a criminal-turned-politician who is lodged in a Delhi prison. The property dealer, identified as Feroz Ali, was purportedly working for the jailed gangster-turned politician. The rival gangster, Rahees Khan, too is lodged in a jail in Bihar, said police.

8. 55-Year-Old Gangraped at Nimta, Four Arrested
A 55-year-old woman on Sunday night was allegedly gangraped by four youths inside the eatery she runs on Nimta Kalibari Road. The woman has been admitted to the North Dumdum Municipality Hospital. The four suspects have been arrested.
According to police, the woman who hails from Haroa, would sometimes stay in a room adjacent to the eatery. On Sunday night the four youths — Akash Das, Narayan Paswan, Robi Mondal and Arman Ali — barged into the eatery and consumed alcohol. They then allegedly tied and gagged her before taking turns to rape her.

9. Eight Youngsters Threaten 13-Year-Old Vasai Girl With Knife, Try to Kidnap Her; Three Held
A 13-year-old school student in Vasai (west) was threatened with a knife by a group of eight youngsters, who then tried to kidnap her, the police said. Three suspects, including two minors, have been held so far in connection with the case.
Not all of the eight youngsters have been identified yet, but they are believed to be in their late teens and early 20s. The two minor boys have been sent to the Children’s Remand Home in Bhiwandi, while the other accused was produced in Vasai court on Wednesday, said assistant police inspector Rekha Londhe from Manickpur police station. “We are in search of the other five accused.”
