1. 14-Year-Old Meghalaya Girl Raped Multiple Times Over Five Days in Gurugram

A 14-year-old girl from Meghalaya was raped and sexually assaulted by four men at different locations in the NCR, over five days, after she arrived in the city on 2 August. The police on Thursday arrested two men for allegedly raping the girl and a woman for conspiring against her.

According to the police, the victim, a school drop-out, had left home on July 30 with a man, who is one of two suspects still at large. She told the police in her complaint that a friend, who had been working as a medical attendant (nurse) in Gurugram for the last two years, brought her to the city on the pretext of getting her a job in a private hospital.

2. Goons Brutally Attack SAIL Chief on South Delhi Road

Steel Authority of India Limited Chairman Anil K Chaudhary was intercepted and attacked with iron rods and knives by four men near Hudco Place in South Delhi's Hauz Khas, while he was returning home on Wednesday night.

The assailants, travelling in Honda City, chased Chaudhary's car and tried to ram it twice before blocking its way. The men first grabbed the driver and shoved him away and then started beating up the SAIL chairman.

3. UP: Missing 8-Year-Old Boy’s Body Found, Police Detain Teen Neighbour

A day after an eight-year-old boy had gone missing in Rampur Kalan area of Sitapur, his body with multiple stab wounds was found near his house on Thursday morning.

While the postmortem report of the boy did not confirm sexual assault as speculated by the police earlier, a 16-year-old boy, who lives in the same locality, has been detained for kidnapping and murder of the boy.

4. Traffic Cop Near Mumbai Killed After Truck Knocks Him Down on Potholed Road

A traffic policeman in Ambernath on the outskirts of Mumbai died on Tuesday night when a truck rammed his two-wheeler and crushed one of his legs after he allegedly swerved to avoid a pothole on the road.

The accident happened around 9:15 pm when Sanjeev Patil (49) who was on duty, headed for a locality on his motorcycle to clear a traffic jam after receiving a telephone call.

Outside the Ambernath police station on the Kalyan-Badlapur road, the truck hit his motorcycle from behind when he tried to avoid running into a pothole, locals said. As he fell on the road, the rear wheels of the truck ran over his left leg causing severe injuries.

5. 69-Year-Old Man Arrested for ‘Raping’ 12-Yr-Old Girl

A 69-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl. The arrest was made after the victim’s mother had lodged a complaint.

The accused has been arrested under Section 376 (3) (rape) of IPC and under various sections of the POCSO Act.

“The mother claimed that the minor girl was raped several times during the last six months,” said a police officer.

6. Man Killed as 2 Families Clash Over Honking

A 57-year-old man who intervened in a brawl between his two sons and another family was stabbed to death at a slum in Vidyavihar (East) on Thursday.

Three people have been booked for murder in connection with the incident. The police said they would be arrested after they are discharged from hospital.

7. In Mumbai, 50-Year-Old Lawyer Held for Taking Exam in Place of I-T Officer

A 50-year-old lawyer has been arrested for allegedly impersonating an Income-Tax officer and appearing for departmental examinations on his behalf.

The police identified the income tax officer as Rishikant Javkar (48) and the lawyer as Sunil Patil. Javkar aspired to become a superintendent and was due for promotion, for which he had to clear an examination, the police said, adding that as he wasn’t confident, he sent Patil to appear for him in the exam.

8. 64-Year-Old Former Accountant Dupes Mumbai Firm of Rs 14.08 Cr, Arrested

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Wednesday arrested a 64-year-old former accountant of a Khar-based company for allegedly siphoning of ₹14 crore from the firm’s account and breaching the firm owner’s trust. The other accused, including another former accountant of the firm, are still wanted.

According to police, the accused accountants allegedly diverted money from the firm to their family member’s accounts by forging signatures of the owner, Rajen Shah, and his wife, Darshana. Shah, a Santacruz resident, has a proprietorship firm Kirtanlal & Sons.

The company, which has an office in Khar (West), works as an agent for petrochemical companies; power, oil and gas companies; and engineering companies that import from foreign producers.

9. Gujarat: 21 Booked for Assault on ‘Former Gang Member’

The Karjan police on Thursday booked 21 people for attacking and grievously injuring a 25-year-old man for allegedly giving the police a tip-off regarding a gambling den. The victim and complainant, Nilesh Vasava, is now being treated at SSG hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

The police have booked all 21 accused under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint.), 143 (Member of an unlawful assembly), 144 (Joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon), 147 (Joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon) and 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon).
