A Nepalese man on the run since 2015 after allegedly raping and attempting to kill a six-year-old girl was arrested on Sunday, 29 September, police said.
Vijay (49), is a resident of Bharatpur at Chaitwan in Nepal and used to work in a garment export house in Okhla. He often provided financial help to the survivor's family, they said.
As the girl's father had allegedly abused Vijay, he planned to teach him a lesson and raped the six-year-old on 10 August 2015, police said. He also allegedly tried to kill her.
In a complaint, the girl's mother stated that on the day of the incident she had gone to pick up her daughter from school around 4 pm but when she reached there, she was told that a person claiming to be the child's grandfather had picked her up at 1 pm, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the mobile snatching incident in south Delhi's CR Park area in which a woman journalist was seriously injured, police said.
The suspect has given vital clues about recovery of the items robbed, police said, adding that efforts are being made to arrest others involved in the incident.
The journalist, Joymala Bagchi, was attacked on 22 September by two men on a bike who snatched her phone and dragged her out of a moving auto-rickshaw. She had to be taken to a hospital as she was seriously injured in the attack.

Punjab Police said on Sunday, 29 September that a third accused in the murder case of IAF corporal Vipin Shukla has been arrested from Mumbai airport while he was trying to escape to Dubai.
Shashi Bhushan, the accused, was declared a proclaimed offender in this case.
"He was caught when his documents were being verified by the airport officials who informed Bathinda police and he was arrested," a police official said.
In March, a court in Bathinda had sentenced former Indian Air Force sergeant Sailesh Kumar to death for the murder of the 27-year-old corporal in February 2017.
At the time of the murder, the corporal and the main accused were posted at Bhisiana Air Force Station.

A woman constable alleged that a trainee sub-inspector of police raped her in Hazaribagh district, police said on Sunday, 29 September.
The woman constable alleged that the sub-inspector had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her.
But the sub-inspector now refused to marry her, she alleged.
The 30-year-old constable posted with the Mahila Police Station on Saturday approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate court, which asked the Hazaribagh Muffasil police station to lodge a First Information Report or FIR against the accused, a 28-year-old trainee sub-inspector, police said.

A 16-year-old minor was allegedly abducted and gangraped by three persons in Alwar district, police said on Sunday, 29 September.
Alwar rural additional superintendent of police Vishna Ram said that the minor was abducted around 9 pm on Friday.
“One of the accused, who was known to the victim, called her up and said he wanted to meet her outside her house. When the girl stepped out, he along with his friends abducted her and took her to a secluded place near a forest in a car, and raped her,” said Vishna Ram.
Family members of the girl lodged a complaint with the police on being unable to find her, the official added. The accused were caught by villagers at 12:30 on Sunday when they came to drop the girl near her house.

Ten months after the death of former Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer Hirday Pal Singh, police booked a Himachal Pradesh based mother-daughter duo for allegedly stealing his ATM card and withdrawing Rs 90,000 from his account. The accused have not been arrested yet.
The ATM card of Hirday Pal Singh, who succumbed to Pneumonia and Kidney complications in December last year, was allegedly stolen from his home on 16 September. The accused were identified as Neha Dogra and her mother, Kamlesh Dogra, both residents of Palampur in Himachal Pradesh.
The incident came to light when Hirday’s father Angrez Singh lodged a complaint with the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) and the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in May, but no case was registered.

Two days after a 67-year-old woman was found dead in her flat in Kalyani Nagar, the police have learnt that her 22-year-old grandson had allegedly murdered her due to a dispute over money.
Chandani Chauhan was found dead in her flat in Sunshine Society in Kalyani Nagar Thursday night. Based on primary probe, police had registered a case of murder against unidentified suspects. As part of their probe, when police spoke to some of the deceased’s relatives, they started suspecting her late daughter’s son, Osham Gautam, sources said.
Footage from security cameras in the building and Gautam’s mobile phone location pointed the needle of suspicion towards Gautam, police said. When police learnt that there was allegedly a dispute between Gautam and Chauhan over money, police named him in the offence.

The Pune City Police Crime Branch has arrested two farmers from Aurangabad and recovered a tiger skin, which they had allegedly brought to Pune for sale. Police said the price of the seized skin in the illegal market is around Rs 5 lakh.
An officer from the Unit 1 of the Crime Branch said that a constable on their team received a tip off that two persons were coming to Pune to sell a tiger skin, a trap was laid on Saturday and two persons on a motorcycle were detained for questioning. A tiger skin was recovered from their belongings, said an officer.
Subsequently, a case under Wildlife Act was registered and the two suspects — Rameshwar Harishchandra Deshmukh (35) and Vijay Ganpat Jagtap (38), both residents of Aurangabad— were placed under arrest.

Agra Police on Saturday lodged an FIR against unidentified people in connection with the alleged murder of a 46-year-old BJP leader, whose body was recovered from a canal in Fatehpur Sikri area of the district.
The woman, Parveen Begum, was BJP president of Agra’s Dayalbagh Minority Cell, said party’s Agra district president Vijay Shivharey.
A resident of Karbala area in Agra, Begum went missing on Thursday and her husband, Palley Khan, filed a missing person’s report with New Agra Police Station. Her body was recovered from the canal on Friday evening.
Citing an autopsy report, police said the body had no injuries and the death occurred due to drowning.
