Dussehra commemorates the triumph of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, marking the victory of good over evil. Celebrations involving burning effigies of Ravana were held all over the country to mark the end of the festival on Tuesday, 8 October.

During the day, devotees also immersed idols of Goddess Durga all over the country. The festival also commemorates the slaying of a demon king Mahishasura by lion-riding, ten armed goddess Durga.
