As India celebrates its 71st Independence Day on Tuesday, the state of Assam continues to grapple with floods that has affected over 30 lakh across 25 districts, and claimed the lives of at least 102 people this year.

But the flood did not deter the people of the state from taking part in the Independence Day celebrations. These heart-warming pictures are indicative of the iron spirit of the people in the face of adversity.
