An unscheduled flight full of South Asian deportees landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on 14 February to drop off 33 illegal Indian immigrants who were deported for living illegally in the US, Hindustan Times reported.

An officer of the Central Industrial Security Forces officer (CISF) told Hindustan Times that there were 121 Pakistani immigrants on the flight as well.

The flight left for Islamabad after dropping off immigrants in Delhi.

We were informed in advance about the movement of a large number of deportees. Officials from the external affairs ministry were present and facilitated the movement. After completing the formalities, the passengers were sent to their respective states.

The flight left for Islamabad at 11:30 am to drop the 121 Pakistani immigrants.

A Delhi police officer, however, said that no case has been registered against any of the Indians.

The United States and India regularly work together to address transnational crimes. However, as a matter of policy, we do not comment on law enforcement matters, HT quoted a US embassy spokesperson as saying.

The US has been stricter towards illegal migrants in the Trump government. Donald Trump had issued an executive order on illegal immigrants in January 2017, known as “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States”.

The US Homeland Security Department had also issued two memorandums in February 2017 to instruct all homeland security officials to initiate enforcement actions against removable aliens.

Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs had told the Lok Sabha in July 2017 that 702 undocumented Indian nationals have been issued travel documents to ensure their safe return to India, being the last such data on deportation of Indian immigrants, Hindustan Times further reported.
