As many as 40 CRPF jawans were martyred in the terror attack in Pulwama on 14 February.
According to the official list of the martyrs, the most number of casualties was from Uttar Pradesh – at 12. Of the martyred CRPF personnel, four hailed from Punjab and five from Rajasthan.
According to the list of the identified, 12 martyred jawans hailed from UP. Awadhesh Kumar Yadav from Bahadurpur village, Chandauli district; Ramesh Yadav from Tofapur, Varanasi district; Ajit Kumar Azad from Unnao district; Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, from Harpur, Maharajgunj district; Pradeep Singh from Azan village in Kannauj district; and Ram Vakeel from Vinayakpur village, Mainpuri district are among those who have been identified, as per the list accessed by The Quint.
Mahesh Kumar, who hailed from Allahabad, was also identified.
After Uttar Pradesh, the most number of jawans were from Rajasthan, with five martyrs. Among those identified from Rajasthan are Rohitash Lamba from Jaipur district; Jeet Ram from Sundarwali village, Bharatpur district; Narayan Lal Gurjar from Binol village, Rajsamand district; and Hemraj Meena, who hailed from Vinod Kalan village, Kota district.
Bhagirath Singh of Rajakheda was also named in the list, taking the death toll from Rajasthan to 5.
From Punjab, four jawans were identified. They are Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Rauli village, Anandpur Sahib district; Jaimal Singh from Moga district; Sukhjinder Singh from Gandiwind, Tarantaran district; and Maninder Singh Attri, who was a resident of Arya Nagar, Gurdaspur district.
Two each of the identified martyrs were from Maharashtra and Uttarakhand.
Rathod Nitin Shivaji from Chorpangra village, Baldana district and Sanjay Rajput of Lakhani Plot, Buldhana district were from Maharashtra, while Virendra Singh from Udamsingh Nagar disrtrict and Mohan Lal of Bankot village, Uttarkashi district hailed from Uttarakhand.
The list also includes two jawans each from Bihar and Tamil Nadu. Ratan Kumar Thakur from Bihar’s Bhagalpur district and Sanjay Kumar Sinha from Patna district were among those who died in the bombing on Thursday.
Subramanian G from Tuticorin district and Sivachandran C from Ariyalur district were the two men on the list who hailed from Tamil Nadu.
Sudip Biswas from West Bengal’s Nadia district and Bablu Santra from West Bauria village, Howrah district of the state, were also named in the list.
Vijay Soreng, whose name was on the list, hailed from Jharkhand, while Manoj Kumar Behera hailed from Odisha’s Cuttack. PK Sahoo, who hailed from Odisha’s Jagat Singh Pur district, was also on the list.
Naseer Ahmad from Jammu and Kashmir’s Dodasan Bala in Rajouri district was the only one on the list who hailed from the state.
Assam, Kerala, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh saw one name each on the list.
In the wake of the incident, the CRPF has issued a ‘high vigil’ alert to all its formations in the Kashmir Valley and other places in the state and has asked its units to be in “full preparedness”, a senior official told PTI.
