The world’s longest hunger strike ended on 9 August as an emotional ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Sharmila licked some honey from her palm.

Sharmila’s fast against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) lasted 16 long years. Breaking her fast, she announced that her demand for the repeal of AFSPA, however, has not ended, and she only wants to “try a different agitation now”.
