A ramshackle house which was situated at a distance of about 200 metres from the building that has been in the news over BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya’s reported assault of a civic official, tumbled down in Indore on Tuesday, 2 July, according to an Indian Express report.
The house was not listed for demolition by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), the report said, adding that it had no occupants.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday, 3 July, dismissed a petition seeking a stay on demolition of the house located in Ganji Compound of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district.
The court, however, directed the IMC to provide within two days a temporary shelter elsewhere for the family living in the house.
"The IMC's bid to dismantle the dilapidated house is in a larger interest so I will not intervene," Justice Rohit Arya was quoted as saying by the petitioner family's counsel Pushymitra Bhargava.
"Though the court did not pass stay order, it directed the IMC to provide a dwelling facility temporarily within two days. The family can live at the place for three months," he added.
On June 26, Vijayvargiya had attacked an official with a cricket bat in full public view when a municipal team arrived to pull it down, citing its dilapidated condition as the reason. The occupants were opposed to the demolition.
Akash Vijayvargiya, the son of BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, was later arrested. He walked out of jail on Sunday, 30 June, after a special court granted bail to him.
On Tuesday, 2 July, PM Modi had, during the BJP parliamentary party meeting, said that arrogance and misbehaviour cannot be tolerated.
"Whoever it may be, whoever's son he may be... such arrogance, misbehaviour cannot be tolerated" and action should be taken against them, the PM had reportedly said in an apparent reference to Vijayvargiya.
