Reports of a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai district on Friday, 12 June, turned out to be false.

“It is a wrong message that is being spread. We will take strict action against those spreading it. Revenue Divisional Officer of Aranthangi, and Tahsildar of Avudaiyarkoil are inspecting the site. A dry Karuvelam tree has been burning in the area. No debris from a helicopter has been found anywhere in the vicinity. This is entirely fake," Pudukkottai District Collector P Uma Maheshwari was quoted as saying by The News Minute.

[Note: An earlier version of this story had mentioned that a helicopter had crashed in Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai district on Friday, based on a tweet by ANI. The tweet was later deleted, with a clarification put out by the news agency at 1:18 pm saying it was "withdrawn because of incorrect information". We regret the error.]
