Speaking in Lok Sabha on Monday, 6 August, BJP MP Dr Heena Gavit raised the incident of a mob attack on her by a group of Maratha protesters in Maharashtra’s Dhule region.
Alleging that no preventive action was taken by the police when a mob of nearly 200 people attacked her vehicle, Gavit demanded an enquiry and asked for the suspension of the local Superintendent of Police.
She further alleged that the 15 to 20 people were taken into custody by the police, but they were let go once an FIR was filed.
Gavit asked for an enquiry on the SP in the area stating that the police has not only failed to protect a woman but is also responsible for shielding criminals.
Earlier, she had told The Indian Express that everyone has a right to protest but not at the expense of someone’s life.
