Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday, 27 October took oath as the chief minister of Haryana for a historic second consecutive term, along with JJP leader Dushyant Chautala as the deputy chief minister.

Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal and party leader Sukhbir Singh Badal were also present at the Raj Bhawan for the ceremony.

Congress Lashes Out at BJP Over Kanda Extending Support

Declaring that the people of Haryana have rejected the BJP, the Congress on Friday accused the saffron party of using allurements of money and power to get a majority and said a government formed through such means would be "illegitimate".

Lashing out at the BJP for taking Kanda's support, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters, "I think you should look at the statements made by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah at the time when Gopal Kanda was a minister in the (Congress) government in Haryana when we forced him to resign after registration of a case and also removed him from ministership."

"What was the stance of the BJP then and what sort of doublespeak is the BJP doing today," he said, accusing the saffron party of displaying "hunger for power".

BJP to Stake Claim to Form Govt in Haryana on Saturday

The BJP legislative party will meet on Saturday to elect its leader, a formality as the party has already decided that Khattar will head the next government. Khattar said he has got letters of support from Independent MLAs expressing confidence that he will prove his majority in the floor of the House.

Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP general secretary Arun Singh will attend the meeting as central observers, party general secretary Anil Jain said.

The party has a support of majority of MLAs, he said.

JJP Chief Dushyant Chautala Addresses Media

"Will Ally With Whoever is Willing to go Ahead With Our Schemes": JJP Chief Chautala

JJP Chief Dushyant Chautala, while addressing the media after the results of Haryana assembly elections has put him under the radar, said that his party will form the government with whoever agrees to go ahead with his schemes.

“Whoever agrees to support our two schemes - the Common Minimum Program, under which we had taken the resolution of 75 percent job reservations for Haryanvis, and that of Chaudhary Devi Lal’s idea of old age pension, we will form government with them.”

Chautala also said that the party has not made any moves or talked to anyone on this. “There have been discussions, but we have not talked to anyone yet nor have we made any moves towards allying with anyone yet,” he said.

BJP Chief Amit Shah Reportedly Reaches Out to Chautala: Reports

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly reached out to Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) chief Dushyant Chautala, in an attempt to join hands with the party to form government in Haryana, which gave a hung verdict on Thursday, 24 October.

Chautala had earlier said that his party will support whoever agrees to support their pension and employment schemes.

AAP Slams BJP for Reaching Out to Controversial MLA Kanda

The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday slammed the BJP for seeking support of controversial MLA Gopal Kanda to form the government in Haryana, saying the saffron party is aligning with a rape accused in a state where it launched the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme.

A day after the election results for the assembly polls in Haryana were declared, Kanda, who won the Sirsa seat, on Friday claimed that he and the Independents have "decided to extend unconditional support to the BJP".

Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Friday 25 October, said that the Congress had agreed to the demands put forth by JPP chief Dushyant Chautala while addressing a press conference, CNN News18 reported.

Chautala, during the press conference, said that his party will form the government with whoever agrees to support his schemes, which include a reservation scheme and a pension scheme.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar reached Chandigarh from New Delhi on Saturday morning to attend the BJP legislative party meeting, which will be held shortly to elect its leader in the Assembly. After reaching Chandigarh in a helicopter, Khattar drove straight to his official residence, which is close to the meeting venue.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11 am to elect its new leader, a formality as the party has already decided that Khattar will head the next government, PTI reported.

After the meeting, Khattar is likely meet Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya and stake claim to form the next government in the state.

Jannayak Janta Party leader Dushyant Chautala is also expected to reach Chandigarh in the afternoon and meet the governor to submit his party's letter of support to the BJP.

No Question of Including Kanda in Govt: BJP Leader Anil Vij

Haryana Minister and BJP leader Anil Vij has denied that Gopal Kanda will be included in the government that will be formed in Haryana. “There is no question of including Gopal Kanda in the government. We are we not taking his support,” Vij said, according to ANI.

Swearing-In Ceremony Likely on Sunday

The BJP legislative party meeting to elect its leader in the Assembly began on Saturday, after Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar reached Chandigarh from New Delhi.

Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP General Secretary Arun Singh also reached the UT guesthouse in Chandigarh to attend the meeting as central observers.

BJP General Secretary (organisation) Suresh Bhatt told PTI that the swearing-in ceremony of the party-led government in Haryana would not take place on Saturday.

"The date will be announced later," he said.

However, sources in BJP told PTI the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Sunday afternoon.

Khattar Elected BJP's Legislative Party Leader, to Meet Governor and Stake Claim to Form Govt

Manohar Lal Khattar was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party in Chandigarh on Saturday. The announcement was made by Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who along with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Arun Singh, attended the meeting as central observers.

Khattar's name was proposed by MLAs Anil Vij and Kanwar Pal and seconded by other BJP legislators.

After being elected as the legislative party leader, Khattar will go to meet Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya and stake claim to form the government in the state.

“We will go to meet the Governor, and request him to invite us to form the government,” Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Naina Chautala's Name Being Discussed for Deputy CM's Post: JJP Sources

The JJP is considering the name of Naina Chautala for the post of deputy chief minister in Haryana, party sources told PTI on Saturday.

Naina Chautala is the mother of JJP leader Dushyant Chautala.

She was elected from the Badhra assembly segment and had defeated Congress candidate Ranbir Singh Mahendra with a margin of 13,704 votes in the just concluded elections.

However, the final decision was yet to be taken, the sources said, according to PTI.

BJP Will Work With JJP, Independents for Development of Haryana: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Addressing a press conference after the BJP’s legislative party meeting, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that BJP would work alongside JJP and Independents. “BJP, Dushyant Chautala’s party and Independents - we all are together. And we all will work for the development of Haryana,” the Law Minister said.

The ceremony will take place at 2:15 pm at Haryana Raj Bhawan.
