A day after The Quint reported the Gurgaon Police’s failure to follow procedure when recording the FIR in the alleged rape of two Nepalese women by a Saudi diplomat, the police are on the back foot.

But not before the Gurgaon Police accused The Quint of misreporting facts in the case.

On Twitter, here’s what the Gurgaon police had to say.

Could the Women Have Used Graphic Language

The fact remains however that the two Nepalese victims are not fluent in Hindi and could not have used the language found in the FIR. Take for example:

“Roja ke papa mujhe alag kamre me le ja kar pehle massage karata tha tatha baad me mere muah me l***d deta tha.” (Roja’s father used to take me to a separate room and make me give him a massage. Thereafter, he would force his penis into my mouth.)

“Hume Nainital lekar gaye the jo waha par bhi Roja ke pita ne malish karwaya tatha muah me l***d dekar mere saath bura kaam kiya” (They took us to Nainital where he made me massage him and forced me to perform oral sex on him.)

We leave it to the wisdom of our readers to decide – could a rape survivor have used this kind of graphic language?

In a further exchange on Twitter, the Gurgaon Police said:

When we checked with Maiti India, the NGO which assisted the complainants, we were told that the NGO worker who accompanied the two women to the police station is also a citizen of Nepal and has only a working understanding of Hindi. Maiti India also added that they haven’t received a copy of the FIR from the Gurgaon Police, so they really can’t comment on the language and words used in it.

Did a Woman Officer Really Record the Statement?

The Gurgaon Police has still not given out the name of the lady officer who they claim recorded the complaint, despite our requests. The FIR only names Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar as the Investigating Officer and nobody else.

The police officer who has recorded the FIR is a witness and eventually his statement will be recorded by the court. If the name of the IO, as mentioned in the FIR, is Vijay Kumar then the Gurgaon police is lying. How can they say that the statement was recorded by a lady officer?
