Satya Pal Malik was sworn in as the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, 23 August.
Satya Pal Malik was appointed as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on 21 August with Lalji Tandon taking the post of the Bihar Governor, a Rashtrapati Bhawan spokesperson said on Tuesday, 21 August. Tandon was also sworn in on 23 August.
Malik was earlier the Governor of Bihar. He was a Lok Sabha MP from Aligarh in 1989 to 1991 and a Rajya Sabha MP twice before that. The 71-year-old leader has been associated with the BJP, and has also reportedly served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
Meanwhile, Lalji Tandon, also affiliated to the BJP, was a Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow from 2009 to 2014 and has been known to be close to Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Satyadev Narayan Arya has been appointed as the Governor of Haryana, and BJP leader from Agra Baby Rani Maurya will be the Governor of Uttarakhand. Notably, Maurya had served as the mayor of Agra previously.
In Sikkim, Ganga Prasad would be the new Governor, while in Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy would be assuming the post. Kaptan Singh Solanki has been appointed as the Governor of Tripura.
Ganga Prasad was earlier the Governor of Meghalaya. Prior to that, the BJP leader was a member of the Legislative Council of Bihar. Meanwhile, Tathagata Roy was till now the Governor of Tripura, and had also been the president of the West Bengal unit of the BJP from 2002 to 2006.
Kaptan Singh Solanki was till now the Governor of Haryana and before that had also served as the Governor of Punjab from 2015 to 2016. He was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2009.
