Goa Police: Louis Berger Paid 50-60 Lakh to Kamat and Alemao

Goa Crime Branch has have told a court that Louis Berger had paid 50-60 lakh to ex-Cm Kamat and ex-PWD Min Alemao.

The Goa Crime Branch has submitted before a local court that former Louis Berger officials had allegedly paid Rs 50-60 lakh to former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and then PWD minister Churchill Alemao as a bribe for major water projects.

Digamabar Kamat’s anticipatory bail plea was opposed by the police after a former Louis Berger officials had recorded statements confirming Kamat and Alemao’s involvement.

Sanjay Jindal and Shiv Ram Prasad, had deposed before a judicial magistrate over a week back while director of Shah Consultancy Prasanna Shah was the third witness whose statement was recorded under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure last week.

An ex-employee had witnessed four transaction – two to Kamat and Alemao each – in 2010-11, according to Crime Branch’s submission to the District Court Judge BP Deshpande.

The police has termed Alemao as “marginally noted accused”.

The statement by Goa Crime Branch has stated that the two ministers have clearly abused their positions leading to major loses to the state.

With Kamat under scanner, the Goa Congress has sought a CBI probe in the case and demanded that re-negotiation of the works.
