Just a day before the 5th anniversary’s of the infamous Nirbhaya rape case in Delhi, another shocking incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda
A 21-year-old college student committed suicide after she was allegedly molested by three youths in Banda , police said on Friday. In-charge of the Atara police station Durgvijay Singh said the woman hanged herself at her house.
Based on a complaint filed by her father, a case was registered against the three youths for "molesting the woman and abetting the suicide".
One of the three accused has been arrested, he said. Father of the victim, however says, that they tried to lodge a complaint multiple times in various police stations but the police refused to register the complaint against the accused. The family of the victim is now demanding justice.
The police refuted the father’s allegations saying that there was no complaint filed by the family in the matter and that they have begun the investigations now.
The incident comes to light despite the UP government’s establishment of ‘Anti-Romeo squads’ that patrol the streets looking for ever-teasers and prevent harassment of women on the streets.
