1. Actor Manoj Goyal’s Wife Ends Life At Lokhandwala Flat In Mumbai's Kandivali Area

A 40-year-old homemaker ended her life by hanging from the ceiling fan at her Lokhandwala flat in Kandivli on Saturday. Her husband, Manoj Goyal, is actor by profession.

Deceased Neelima Goyal took the extreme step between 11am and 1pm when she was alone in her flat. Samta Nagar police has found a suicide note which said no one should be held responsible for her act. A case of suicide has been registered in the matter.

2. Gadkari For Concrete Roads Across The Country

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said all the roads in the country would be converted into cement-concrete ones to ensure their stability and durability.

"In Mumbai, the cement concrete roads built 20 years ago are still in a good shape. But some political leaders, bureaucrats and contractors do not wish that such roads should be constructed in Mumbai," Gadkari said last night at an event in Vashi in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.

3. Ghatkopar Building Collapse: Supervisor Of Revamp Project Arrested, More On Police Radar

One more person was arrested on Saturday night for his alleged involvement in the alteration work that is being blamed for the collapse of Siddhi Sai building in Ghatkopar on Tuesday, killing 17 people and injuring more than 20. At least, five others are under the scanner.

Anil Mandal, 28, was the supervisor of the renovation project and is said to have suggested main accused Sunil Shitap to carry out a number of modifications in the three flats that he owned on the ground floor of the four-storey structure.

4. Shiv Sena Committed To Thane's Development, Says Uddhav Thackeray

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has said his party is committed to the development of Thane and the city is poised to see radical changes in the next 10 years.

"Within the next 10 years, you will see the face of the city changing drastically on account of the development works being undertaken by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)," he said last night.

Thackeray said the people of Thane reposed faith in the party by electing it to rule the civic body with a clear majority in the elections held early this year.

5. Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen Gets Revamped Dining Car

The Deccan Queen popular on Mumbai-Pune route has got a revamped dining car with brand new interiors and complete PVC flooring.

"The revamp work was carried out in Matunga workshop and the new dining car with passenger amenities was attached to Deccan Queen on Sunday evening," said Central Railway chief public relations officer Sunil Udasi.

6. Unable To Secure Bail, Undertrial Hangs Self

A 22-year-old undertrial, who was lodged at the Thane Central jail, committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom on Saturday morning. A case of accidental death has been filed and witness statements are being taken.

According to the Thane police, the deceased Ashit Maranwar was booked in July last year under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) for the gangrape of a minor along with four others by the Waliv police in Vasai. Although one of the men got bail, the other four, including Maranwar have been in jail since last year, since they were unable to secure bail. The deceased, however, had alleged that he was being framed for a crime he never committed.

7. Five Arrested For Attack On Mumbai Lawyer Who Represented Madhur Bhandarkar

The police have arrested five people for attacking special public prosecutor Manohar Kandalkar, who represented filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar in a murder conspiracy case, in which accused Preeti Jain was convicted. The mastermind is still at large and his motive is not known yet. The mastermind had allegedly paid them Rs 20,000 to attack Kandalkar. On July 11, when Kandalkar was on his way to the sessions court, a paver block was hurled at his car by two men on a bike. He escaped unhurt, while the men fled.

He filed a complaint at Bhoiwada police station. The police examined CCTV footage from the spot, based on which the accused were arrested this week.
