The Governor of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday wrote to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and asked for reasons for retaining Gayatri Prajapati, who is a rape-accused, in his Cabinet.
A non-bailable warrant and a lookout notice were issued on Saturday against UP minister Gayatri Prajapati, one of the seven accused in a rape case. Warrants have also been issued against six of his associates.
Simultaneous raids are being conducted in Lucknow, Kanpur and Amethi to trace the minister. The minister’s passport has also been revoked for four weeks.
A first-time MLA from Amethi, Prajapati has been accused of rape by a woman from Bundelkhand who has alleged that he, along with the six associates, had raped her at Prajapati’s official residence in Lucknow in 2014.
