Last year, a man was killed over ‘suspicious’ meat found in his fridge.
Later the same year, the Bombay High Court cleared actor Salman Khan of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case.
Early this year, a Dalit scholar killed himself after he was suspended by Hyderabad University for his political activism.
On 25 February, Bollywood celebrated the return of Sanju Baba after he finished his five-year jail term. The actor was sentenced for firearms offences linked to the 1993 Mumbai blasts, which killed 257 people and injured 713.
In the national capital, a bunch of youngsters at JNU were arrested on sedition charges for allegedly raising ‘anti-national’ slogans. The chants killed no one but greatly ‘injured the sensibilities’ of staunch nationalists.
Welcome to India!
Where a ‘criminal’ is tagged ‘bechara’ and receives a hero’s homecoming. Where the youth, who exercise their freedom of speech, are labelled as ‘deshdrohi’. Where an educated man loses his life over caste politics. Where people are killed over ‘cow and pig’ politics. Where there is ‘intolerance’ to criticism and Section 377, but tolerance towards people like Gyandev Ahuja and Vikram Singh Chauhan. Where Nathuram Godse is a patriot and Shah Rukh Khan is a Pakistani agent.
Such is Bharat! But is this the Bharat you are proud of?
Where is Mera Bharat Mahan heading?
Are we headed the ‘Right’ way?
