Cash Woes: Foreign Tourists Perform on Streets of Rajasthan

Stranded without money, two tourist groups decided to hit the streets of Pushkar and earn their ticket back to Delhi

Tourists from Germany, Australia and France were seen performing on the streets of Pushkar in Rajasthan after the money they were carrying ceased to be legal tender on 8 November, reports the Hindustan Times.

Stranded without money, two group of tourists decided to hit the streets outside the Brahma temple in the region and earn their ticket back to Delhi.

In front of boards that read “you can help us” and “money problem”, while some members played instruments, some performed on the streets for the local people’s entertainment.

Jaden, an Australian tourist, who had come to participate in the Pushkar fair, tells the Hindustan Times:

We came here on November 8 to see the famous Pushkar fair. The same night government of India announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes. Whatever change we had in Rs 100 and lower denominations are exhausted.

After being turned away from ATMs and banks due to the severe cash crunch caused by the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, the tourists only wish to reach Delhi to get in touch with their respective embassies.
