Amid the ongoing cases of bank frauds, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday, 20 February, addressed the media on the functioning of the finance sector in the country.
The Finance Minister said that on the face of it, the authority of management in the banks has not been used effectively and in the right manner.
The Finance Minister also expressed his displeasure on the functioning of the auditors. Asking what the country’s auditors are doing, Jaitley said that “if both internal and external auditors have looked the other way or failed to detect the issue, then I am sure that the profession of chartered accountants itself and those who control the discipline of that profession itself will start introspecting and saying what are the legitimate actions that are to be taken.”
(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
