Four people were killed and five others were injured, as a fire broke out in the third-floor of the ‘Maimoon Building’ in Mumbai’s Marol late on Wednesday night, reports ANI.
According to News18, the four victims have been identified as Sakina Kapasi (14), Moin Kapasi (10), Tasleem Kapasi (42), Dawood Kapasi (80). The victims all belonged to the same family.
While about five people were injured, 11 were allegedly rescued, reports ANI. The injured have been rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital, where they underwent treatment, and are reported to be stable now, says PTI.
The report adds that the fire was contained within 20-30 minutes of it breaking out, by about 4.30 am, with five fire engines, three ambulances, and three water tankers being brought into action.
"Firemen covered the fire from all sides at 4.20 am. A total of nine people were injured of which four were declared dead upon arrival by the nearby hospital,” he added.
ANI also mentions that the situation is now under control. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, an investigation will be carried into the incident.
The fire in the Maimoon Building comes days after the Kamala Mills Tragedy, where 14 people lost their lives and several were injured, due to the massive fire that broke out last week. While the BMC has launched an aggressive demolition campaign for Mumbai buildings with illegal structures, the occurrence of two tragic fires within a week of one another, does not bode well for the civic body.
