Fire Breaks out in Kolkata Godown; No Casualties Reported Yet

With 25 fire tenders on the spot, fire fighting operations are underway.

A massive fire broke out at a chemical godown near Jagannath Ghat in Kolkata, on the morning of Saturday, 8 June, news agency ANI reported. The godown is located near the iconic Howrah Bridge.

Twenty five fire tenders are on the spot and even after ten hours, fire fighting operations are underway, PTI reports said.

Police said that there was no report of any casualty or any person being trapped in the fire.

“No casualty have been reported and 25 fire tenders present. The fire is yet to be controlled. We’re unable to make an entry inside the building. The roof in the middle part of the building has also collapsed.”

The reason of the fire and extent of the damages are yet to be ascertained, the firemen said, PTI reported.

West Bengal Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose visited the site and advised fire personnel and officials to take necessary steps.
