Fire at Printing Press in Delhi’s Patparganj Leaves One Dead

At least one person was killed in a fire incident that broke out in a three-storeyed paper printing press in Delhi’s Patparganj Industrial area on Thursday, 9 January.

A 25-year-old man died in a fire at a printing press in the busy Patparganj Industrial Area of Delhi early Thursday, 9 January, police and fire department officials said.

Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg told IANS that the fire was reported at 2:38 am.

Shortly after, more than 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, a fire department official said, adding the fire was brought under control by 8 am.

“A total of 30 fire tenders are deployed at the spot. One casualty has happened and the body has been recovered and moved to the hospital,” the Delhi Fire Chief stated.

The cooling process is now underway.

As per the Delhi fire service chief, the fire broke out at the ground and second floor, except the basement.

Police said that they received information about fire at Kaveri printing press at 2:45 am, when the manager Yogesh called them. The press owners have been identified as Atul and Anuj Goyal, residents of Sukhdev Vihar, they said.

The man who died in the fire has been identified as Phool Dev, from Bihar, who used to work as a help there. Dev went inside the building in the night to sleep before the fire started and died due to suffocation, the fire department official said.

The body has been kept at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and the post-mortem will be done once the family reaches in Delhi, police said.

This fire comes nearly a week after a massive blaze in a factory in Delhi's Peeragarhi. A part of the building had collapsed after an explosion, in which a firefighter was killed and 14 others injured.
