The Delhi police on Friday, 6 July, denied news reports that female occult practitioner Geeta Mata had any connection with the death of 11 people of a single family in Delhi's Burari area.

Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police said they had examined her and found nothing to suggest any connection with the unfortunate death of 11 people who were found hanging at their residence on 1 July.

CNN-News18 had earlier reported that the occult practitioner was detained, and during the interrogation, had confessed to “pushing the family to commit suicide”.

Seven women and four men from the family were found dead in their house on 1 July in Burari.

According to the police, ten bodies were found hanging on the first floor from a railing with their faces covered, while the body of an old lady was found lying in an adjacent room. The deceased included two minors.

Several theories, including a religious or spiritual angle, have surfaced. The police have continued their investigation into the mysterious death of all the members, but they are yet to reach a definite conclusion.
