Forty-two-year-old Iddu Mian, the man who had allegedly pushed his daughters off a moving train in Sitapur district in October, has managed to stay off the radar of the UP government Railway Police (GRP) team for the past 17 days now, Hindustan Times reported.
“His mobile location was last tracked in Jammu on 30 October. Since then the police team has no clue of his movement. We are not sure whether he is in Jammu or moved to some other place,”Ashish Kumar Verma, station officer of GRP (Lakhmipur Kheri), told HT.
The allegation came from his wife, Afreen, who was also considered to be dead by the police. However, a few days later, she showed up with her youngest daughter Haseena, at her native village Jhakra in Bihar, and filed a complaint to the local police that her husband Iddu had pushed her daughters – Munni, Anbul, Saleeba and Rabiya – off the train, because he didn’t have enough money to afford their weddings.
While six-year-old Munni died from the injuries sustained during her fall, her sisters were taken to a nearby hospital for recovery. One of them, seven-year-old Anbul, had initially told the police that her father had pushed them off the train. She soon changed her statement, saying her maternal uncle Iqbal and his friend Izhaar were the ones who had pushed them.
According to the report by The Indian Express, Afreen, Iddu and their five children had left Bihar to travel to Jammu, where Ansari reportedly works. After he had pushed their daughters off the train, he had forced Afreen and their youngest daughter Haseena to take a train back to Bihar, where she emerged a few days later.
Ansari is currently missing.
Saumitra Yadav, SP, GRP, Lucknow told The Indian Express that the police had released Afreen’s brother and friend upon hearing the former’s statement. The hunt for Ansari was on, but they suspected that a third party may be at play here as well.
The police are also carrying out an investigation as to the identity of the dead woman found on the tracks, who was initially identified as Afreen.
