Veteran journalist Aatish Taseer on Friday, 22 November, called out ‘fake news’ on Twitter of a report that claimed he has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the revocation of his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
A Zee News report has claimed that Taseer approached the apex court against his OCI card’s revocation by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had revoked his OCI card, following which his mother Tavleen Singh – also a veteran journalist – expressed shock at the government’s move, given that she has always openly supported the prime minister.
Taseer wrote, “Fake news. Also being circulated by that other government source of misinformation: Republic TV.”
On 8 November, Taseer, in article, had himself reacted to the Modi government’s decision to revoke his OCI status saying that he was expecting a “reprisal” but not a “severing” following his ‘India’s Divider-in-Chief’ article on PM Modi in TIME Magazine.
